Standard Gourgeist / Aegislash

After seeing the new BKP Aegislash at last weeked’s Pre-release tournament, it started my deck-building ideas and wheels cranking, especially since I’ve played a variety of different damage-spread decks currently and in the past. Following is v0.0 of my Gourgeist-Aegislash, an eerie, painful (puns intended) deck:

Pokémon (16)
  • 2 Aegislash (BKP)
  • 2 Dedenne (FFI)
  • 2 Doublade
  • 3 Gourgeist (XY)
  • 3 Honedge (PRC)
  • 4 Pumpkaboo
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums (32)
  • 1 Ace Trainer
  • 3 Dimension Valley
  • 2 Judge
  • 3 Level Ball
  • 4 Professor Birch’s Observations
  • 4 Professor Sycamore
  • 1 Professor’s Letter
  • 2 Rare Candy
  • 1 Skyla
  • 2 Super Rod
  • 1 Teammates
  • 1 Trainer’s Mail
  • 3 Ultra Ball
  • 4 VS Seeker
Energy (12)
  • 4 DCE
  • 2 Mystery Energy
  • 6 Psychic Energy
Strategy

This is essentially another damage-spread deck that features the new Aegislash’s Sword Pain.

Ideally start with Pumpkabo. Gourgeist is the lead attacker for a number of reasons including:

  • Pumpkaboo’s attack can auto-Confuse the Defending Pokémon which is very helpful at times.
  • Gourgeist’s Eerie Voice attack places 2 damage counters on all of the opponent’s Pokémon. If need be, its Spirit Scream attack can also be used to put the Defending Pokémon (and Gourgeist too) 10 damage away from being KOd.
Continue attacking with Eerie Voice (preferred) until the opponent “deals with it” or start attacking with Aegislash if the opponent's board is set properly. At this point, the Gourgeist-Aegislash player should have several options Including:
  • Disrupt opponent’s hand with Ace Trainer, assuming the initial Gourgeist was KOd,
  • Continue attacking with a 2nd Gourgeist, and/or
  • Attack with Aegislash whose Sword Pain attack DOUBLES the amount of damage already on each of the opponent’s Pokémon.
Notes
Given how there are a variety of different Pokémon HPs, consideration has been given to including a 1-1 Meowstic line. Meowstic Ear influence attack can move damage counters around on all of the opponent’s Pokémon.

Another option under consideration is replacing the entire Gourgeist line with the new Trevenant BREAK line, but incorporate both XY and BKP Trevenant.

Psychic – HP60
Basic Pokemon
(P) Pierce: Put 1 damage counter on your opponent’s Active Pokemon.
Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 2

Psychic – HP80
Stage 1 – Evolves from Honedge
(PC) Deep Pierce: Put 3 damage counters on your opponent’s Active Pokemon.
Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 2

Psychic – HP140
Stage 2 – Evolves from Doublade
(CCC) Sword Pain: Place damage counters on each of your opponent’s Pokemon equal to the number of damage counters already on them.
(PPCC) Megaton Slash: 100 damage. Choose 2 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. This attack does 10 damage to each of them. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance when damaging the Bench.)
Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 3

Comments are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.

-2 dedenne +2 spinda more spread options

might want to add 2 shaymin ex or 2-2 octillery for more consistent draw support, maybe add float stone instead of mystery energy, or some disruption cards like crushing/enhanced hammer to give you extra time to setup/spread

Hi TuxedoBlack,

I like the basic idea of the deck but not sure on the trainer line and Dedenne. I do not think that Darkness decks will devote a sufficient amount of resources to their attackers to allow Dedenne to cover the decks weakness. Have you considered Bridgette in this deck? It looks like that card would work fine here. I would also consider the classic Trainer's Mail and Battle Compressor engine with 4 Professor Sycamore and 2-2 Birch and Shauna. The latter could even be replaced with two tech draw supporters that also provide some disruption such as Ace Trainer and Judge. I like the basic idea of the deck but I feel that the speed and consistency should be boosted a little. Please let me know what you think about these ideas.
