Gourgeist / Gardevoir / Dusknoir

My first post here, woo!

Here's a deck I'm running in the new extended format but am curious as to what changes could potentially be made to help it out in standard (After the rotation hits, that is). This deck is centred around based Pumpkin dude thing, Gourgeist

Pokemon:

  • 4X Pumpkaboo
    4X Gourgeist
    2X Ralts
    1X Kirlia
    2X Gardevoir (Psychic Mirage)
    1X Duskull
    1X Dusknoir (Sinister Hand)
    1X Sigilyph (Safeguard)
    1X Mr. Mime (Bench Barrier)
    1X Mewtwo EX
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums:

  • 4X Professor Juniper
    3X N
    3X Skyla
    1X Dowsing Machine
    4X Hypnotoxic Laser
    1X Great Ball
    1X Professors Letter
    2X Evosoda
    3X Rare Candy
    1X Energy Retrieval
    2X Switch
    1X Startling Megaphone
    3X Ultra Ball
2X Battle City (If I had the money, I'd replace these with Tropical Beach)
    2X Rocky Helmet
Energy:

  • 9X Psychic Energy
Strategy:

  • My hopeful strategy is to get the Dusknoir & Gardevoir built and sitting on the bench early game, have a Mr. Mime on the bench too so I can prevent either from recieving damage. Sigilyph is there solely as an EX counter with Mewtwo EX being something I'd play extremely late game for final hits if need be. The ultimate strategy is to get Rocky Helmets onto my Gourgeist and use Spirit Scream with the assistance of a Hypnotoxic laser for one hit KO's. If Spirit Scream is too dangerous, I'd utilize Eerie Voice with the hope that the opponent has a full bench, next turn I'd distribute the energy around and Spirit Scream then (Potentially another Eerie voice depending on the circumstances).

A very slow deck but one that's been very fun for me when built properly (When the draws are bad, oh god it's a mess). I'm open to advice and tips on how to better this here deck. Looking forward to being a member here too!

    :D

Check out these links below. You'll have a better idea:

In these videos, Pooka from the Top Cut gives a great explanation of the decks similar to yours.

Well funnily enough, my deck list was inspired by Pookas variant, give or take some small alterations. The Top Cut has always given me great deck ideas :D

You could replace the psychic energy with special psychic.
You could also include dimensional valley so mewtwo could do 120 damage for just an energy.
Also, tropical beach may be rotated out of the format soon.

RE: Gourgeist/Gardevoir/Dusknoir

Yeah I was gonna be getting Dimensional Valley in the second the new expansion comes out, curious to see what other psychic aid cards come with it because that may potentially be a big player in how this deck operates (If only there was a psychic variant for Korrina aye? :p).

I'm viewing this deck as an extended format deck so I can afford to keep the Gardevoir line in.

RE: Gourgeist/Gardevoir/Dusknoir

Unless your deck focuses on psychic pokemon with colorless attack cost, dimensional valley would not work.

RE: Gourgeist/Gardevoir/Dusknoir

Dimensional Valley doesn't do anything for Gourgeist because it requires pure Psychic. That said, it still benefits the rest of your Pokemon so I would use it anyway, especially since you don't have access to Tropical Beach.

Dimensional valley was meant for mewtwo. If it were the mvp, mewtwo
can Psydrive for 140 damage on the second turn while only discarding
an energy. Mewtwo will not be vurnuble to other mewtwos or yvetals
because it has no energy on it.

RE: Gourgeist/Gardevoir/Dusknoir

Well there you go, use it for the rest of the Pokemon. Psydrive is a very strong attack, and being able to use it for only one Energy that gets discarded makes it easy to power up and good against Yveltal EX, Mewtwo EX, and Deoxys EX, like you said. Sigilyph can also use it in case it has to attack, which means minimal Energy investment for a Pokemon that'll die in a few turns, and you can power up something else in the meantime. I'm all for Dimensional Valley, but it just doesn't do anything for Gourgeist. That's really all I can say.
