Ended up going all the way to Greenwood, IN for their City Championship, 6 rounds (between 40-50 players), and a very tight schedule for the tournament, it was just a marathon to the end. I played Victini/Vileplume/Vanilluxe, and I don't believe I saw anyone else there running it.
1st Round: Vs. ReshiPhlosionZone
Wonderful player, and a close game. The prize trade started in his favor early on, but once the lock was up, he kept having to search for an answer. I ended up winning by deck-out.
1-0
2nd Round: Vs. EelZone
My opponent for this round was amazing, and we ended up meeting up after every consecutive round to discuss how things were going. He played a turn 2 N in order to try to avoid my turn 2 Vileplume. I ended up not getting what I needed out until turn 4, and by then it was far too late. He had set up the bench with a Zekrom for revenge KO on anything I played, and had Rescue Energy on his Magnezone.
1-1
3rd Round: Vs. 6 Corners
My opponent seemed not to enjoy this matchup, and actually seemed to stall for time once he had taken only one prize, using Virizion and Eviolite. I know I'm probably overhtinking things, but checking your discard, my discard, and my deck count every turn just seems a bit much. I ended up putting it into time, where I took a prize on the final turn, which tied prizes. He put forward Zekrom, and Outraged for 20-30. I locked from there for prize number 2.
2-1
4th Round: Vs. 6 Corners/Donphan (I saw Phanphy)
Again, my opponent didn't seem to enjoy himself. I got VileLock of very early, and ended up getting set with 3 Vanilluxe with 1 Water Energy and 1 Rescue Energy each. He made some very key moves with retreating Cobalion out, rather than taking prizes with him, and almost won the game. In the end, it came down to me PONTing for an energy to retreat Vanilite and taking the tie-breaking prize in time.
3-1
5th Round: Vs. Eelzone
Had a good chat with my opponent during the game, enjoying ourselves and discussing how decks were doing. I drew horribly, and never got set up unti he had 1 prize left. I knew I had lost, but decided to have some fun. I locked his Magnezone down, then started burning through my deck, until I had 2 cards left. Just before I knocked Magnezone out for my first prize, I used Twins to add those last two cards to hand. When I knocked out Magnezone, he immediately brought up his second one, and we laughed about the fact that had two ways to win: by me decking out, or by him Lost Burning for over 300....he took the overkill.
3-2
6th Round: Vs Durant
Finally ended up with a match-up I knew was favorable, and actually ended up playing one of my local League Organizer. I got Vileplume up ASAP, then just sat back and picked off the Durants. Ended up using N with only one prize to safeguard against the Spiritomb tech. A fun game, all the way.
4-2
After 6 rounds of play, I ended up 11th, missing top cut by 3 slots. Since this was my first tournament in years, and my first official one period, I was more than happy with my performance. The staff for the event were helpful, friendly, and somewhat well organized. I do need to work on finding some way to get my setup out more consistently, but other than that, the deck works like a dream! Thanks for reading, and best of luck to all of you in the coming weeks!
