Regarding nuking the Oil Spill...

http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0529/energy-expert-nuke-oil-leak/

Yeah I tried to wrap my brain around this thinking, wouldn't this just cause gas prices to skyrocket to obscene levels? but I guess If it worked well for the Russians it can work for us too...

It does seem like BP is running out of options... -_____-

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

IMO, that's only going to make it a LOT worse than it is already.

dmaster out.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

US Government: "Remember kids, nukes solve all problems!"

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

They need to get 25 kills first.

I love you for saying that. You made my day.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

I agree with dmaster, a small nuke is only going to make more problems than fixing it. And no Meaty nukes don't always solve problems...

They did back in World War II when we nuked Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan under the authorization of
President Truman and Albert Einstein however that was then, now the U.S. are already allies with Japan.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

I would rather get dmaster to SMASH the oil back into the hole/crevice/cave/whatever :D

that would be even more powerful and more effective than a nuke

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

I'm really interested in the risk factor here. Similar techniques for sealing underwater deposits have worked for Russia, but if this goes wrong (such as the bomb breaking the seal completely) the effects would be beyond disastrous. This sounds like a very desperate move.

Gotta admit though, the idea of saving the environment with nukes is deliciously ironic ;o

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

Maybe BP should get the masters of oil protcution to "cap" the well.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

Not yet is isn't I live in Tampa a PORT so we have alot of crap going on with protecting the beachs and things like that the battle is not over YET.

very far from it... but it makes it sound like the possibility of a nuke is a lot less likely now.

it takes a hell of a lot to get me to be serious on this forum, but this oil spill is definitely a big enough deal. thankfully the new efforts are at least saving SOME of the oil, meaning both the sea life and future gas prices will be less affected (to some degree). in any case, both obama and bp have been doing too little too late imo to save the situation, and the leak cannot be stopped soon enough.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

yeah man, the south is going to be screwed up for a few years I predict.

Well what did you expect, much like with the Bush Administration's response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 the same seems to be happening with the Obama Administration and the Oil Leak.

It's a real shame too cause the state of Louisiana has went through getting hit by two to three Category 3 or higher hurricanes in just a short time ago and now an environmental disaster such as this is on the brink of crippling the state's way of life.

From Mardi Gras to Shrimping, Fishing, Wildlife in the Gulf, it's all endangered by an oil company's foolish actions which started the whole mess in the first place. I mourn for the tar feathered pelicans and the birds covered in toxic goo, they deserve better. It really saddens my heart to see this happen to these animals. :(

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

This is pathetic. I seiously can't believe why we would even try to resort to this kind of solution...Top Kill did nothing, the dome did nothing, there's gotta be another way around this except nuking it.

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

America's motto: 'If you can't control it, Nuke it.'

I think there is a better solution then blowing stuff up.

That will just kill all the animals that we are trying to protect. -_-

One prob with that

They are dead already :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

RE: Nuking the Gulf Oil Leak?

It was proposed as an idea, but no one wanted to act on it.

I completely disagree.

1. The President really can't do much. Relying on one person to fix 100% of the world's problems? Not a good idea considering the President does veryyy little.

2. At least he flew there soon after it. Better than Bush lolololol.

dmaster out.
