Ruling GX attacks and Confusion

Let's say your Active Pokémon-GX is Confused, and you declare a GX attack. If the coin flip for Confusion comes up tails, causing the attack to fail, does that use up your one GX attack for the game? Or do you retain the ability to use a GX attack later in the game?

If you fail the confusion check, you do not use the attack you attempted, so you would be able to try again later.
