I'm trying to make a solid list of gyarados counters. So far:

Honchkrow SV
Mesprit LA
Luxray GL and the X
Cyrus's Initiative
Judge

anything else?

None needed IMO. As soon as Lost World comes out, everyone will just hop that bandwagon and drop gyarados.

Zangoose: Maybe, but Gyarados is still a decent deck. They're discussing that elsewhere, but I think it'll still be played.

Ditto. If you play a gyarados deck with Ditto, mirror match is pretty much auto-win. People can debate me all they want, but I've tested it, and it works all the time.

Deevolutor. do 30 dmg to gyarados then deevolute. even with rescue magikarp is still in discard because no damage was taken.

Why are you using Serebii.net scans when you are on a Pokebeach forum?

Also, if you want a counter to Gyrados(instead of spending the time to make some ridiculously stupid Dark/Electric/Steel/Grass Gyrados counter deck), just play Luxray GL, Luxray GLX, Lucario GL, Crobat G, Electric energy, Energy Gain, sometimes a second energy, a Poketurn, and an energy in your hand to discard, just in case?

@Thedrone1man: Suggesting 8-9 cards for a single play is not a counter to gyarados. Thats a sixth of your deck. Techs shouldn't take more than 4 slots, at the very most.

Pidgeot TM beats gyarados. If they need {C}{C} to attack with Tail Revenge, and can't KO an undamaged Pidgeot in any circumstance, it can do half or so of D-Dos's health, and free retreat to your main attacker to mop up the weakened sea snake. You can even use it again on the next Gyarados, since it'll still have 10-30 HP left after a Tail Revenge.

1-1-1/1-0-1 Pidgeot TM, along with DCEs

Play a mismagius PT, mr mime SV, and a devolutor.

Use Mismagius to amnesia their tail revenge, retreat to mime attach devolutor and kill. they cant ko the mime with an attack that does 70 or more (Tail Revenge)

vareki, you're forgetting that Gyarados runs 3-4 Warp Energy and 3-4 SSU. If you do use Headwind, then again, SSU/Warp Energy remove the affect on Gyarados, and then Belt + Flash Bite KO's Pidgeot (assuming Belt is not attached). Perhaps Gyarados might not get it all the time, but the amounts they run seems realistic.

@Gliscor, another possibility is that they Warp Energy to Crobat G (or an Unown Q'd something) and then retreat back into Gyarados to attack.

Yeah. 9 cards...oh wait-doesn't Luxchomp run every single one of those cards? Could that be what I was implying? Ah...no way!

Yeah, lets run an awful card to "counter" Gyrados. Good idea. Except Gyrados runs Luxray. So if a bad player uses Pidgeot to "counter" Gyrados, and even a semi-intelligent Gyrados player runs Luxray, and if they decided to put in electric energy, your Pidgeot is dead. Teching in a 1-1-1 of an awful card to counter Gyrados, when it doesn't actually do anything to counter it is a ridiculously stupid idea. Adding DCEs doesn't help either.

Gyrados can only be countered by electric pokemon, or something that hits equally as hard. That is pretty much the only way. There is no other tech. No Mismagmius(warp energy gets rid of that, also, its a bad card), no Pidgeot, no nothing like that. Either hit it just as hard as it hits you, or have electric pokemon, like Luxray with Lucario. But I guess you've never heard of Luxchomp?

Honchkrow SV can 1 hit belted gyarados... I use it in my sablock and beat a gyarados deck 2-0 today. All thanks to honchkrow SV (and garchomp for easy prizes..)

roserade along with a heavy judge line helps a lot, if you run staraptor fb, try and judge, then use defog to discard BTS and kill the gyarados. Most good gyarados will throw away the BTS once they get one out.

@Thedrone1man: Actually, I have heard of Luxchomp. I have even played Luxchomp. But saying that the only deck that should have a counter to G-Dos is Luxchomp is stupid. Say you want to play something else? Doesn't mean you should have to shell out the $70 for a Luxray GL X, which may or may not cost more than the rest of your deck combined.

Not everything can, or wants to play, Luxray GL Lv.X.

Also, Pidgeot works because Headwind affects all of your opponents pokemon. They can SSU and Warp all they like, but Pidgeot still forces them to play down two more energy to Tail Revenge

Also, a General Question about Honchkrow: In testing, Does using its Pokepower to pull up Karps help, or hurt long term? It lowers their damage output, but they can put down another Gyarados on top of it...
