Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Post here saying that you want to enter and you’ll be accepted. The cap for entries is slated at twenty contestants per round, and signups will end as soon as that number has been met, the deadline for entries has passed, or the thread sits for several days without any new entries (during which private submissions may be accepted via PM to me).

2.) Participation simply requires entrants to write a haiku (a poem with the alternating “Five-Seven-Five Syllables” per line format) or a similar length short poem and post it here as an entry, though submitting them via PM or Profile Message to me is fine too. All poems are due by the second Thursday (around noon, Central Standard Time) after this contest thread is announced and revealed. Voting begins once the deadline has passed or all entries are made. Submissions are final, but small revisions will be allowed so long as the writer informs me directly they're making them.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is Winter.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Each person will be allowed three votes for their favorites. All participants are required to vote, or you will be disqualified from the round. You are not allowed to vote for your own (if you are caught doing so, you will be docked a point).

3.) BlastBurn
4.) mpain0

Haiku List (in order authors entered)

1.) Blizzard
Cold winds blow, and snow
Piles up again like years past,
Marking autumn’s death.

2.) Winter Transformations
Trees wrapped in white
Days dark, holiday lights bright
Winter changes all

3.) Dashing through the snow,
As I head to grandma's house,
For some hot chocolate

4.) The fleeing snow
Escaping the grasp of warmth
It is Winter

5.) Winter
Its frosty tendrils
Splinter magnificently
Across the white world.

6.) Snow and Ice will come
to conquer and destroy all
When Drizleon wakes

7.) Freezing Winds
Freezing winds prevail
the warm temperatures of autumn.
Be sure to stay warm.

8.) The howling wolf,
Upon a late winters night-
I spring up awake.

9.) What do you See?
Look out the window,
can you tell me what you see?
Nothing but winter.

10.) Snow
Everywhere in sight,
On your tall hat, in your shoes,
Everything is white.

Bumping to make sure this is top-belly for the moment.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

In :)

I wanna take home my fourth Haiku contest win, lol

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Im in...

Your going down, Zorua! ;D

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

The signup list has been updated. Before anyone else posts, though, I'd like to ask if people would mind me making voting mandatory for all entrants. To this point, it hasn't been. However, it did sort of come up last time after King Arceus asked anyone who hadn't voted and was entered to do so. Though most entrants do, it seems that the final results would be better if it were required for everyone who submits an entry to.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Im in.

and my poem:

The fleeing snow
Escaping the grasp of warmth
It is Winter

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Alrighty then. I've updated the OP again.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Count me in por favor!

And my entry:

Winter
Its frosty tendrils
Splinter magnificently
Across the white world.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

I would like to sign-up. I am most likely not going to win but its worth a shot. This poem is based on my Fakemon Drizleon and is related to snow.

Snow and Ice will come
to conquer and destroy all
When Drizleon wakes

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Definitely in.

Should have my haiku up sometime this week.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

And, again, the OP has been updated. For the record, I'm still debating whether or not to make voting mandatory for all entrants, though for now I'm leaving as just optional. I just want input before making any serious decisions like than, since this is supposed to be a casual contest in comparison to the Round-Robin.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

I think it should be mandatory. Half the contestants last round didn't even vote, including the winner of the last one.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Fair enough. Perhaps my mistake from the beginning was not requiring all entrants to vote and those who didn't would be disqualified, given the turnouts of previous rounds in general.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

I agree with the mandatory election by voters. It guarantees at least fair participation in vote turnouts as well.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Well, it's still going to be a public poll, of course, since even people who don't participate directly still cast their votes anyways. At least this way, people who are in are obliged to vote as well or any points their poems get won't officially count.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

can i enter?

my poem

The howling wolf,
Upon a late winters night-
I spring up awake.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Yes, you can enter. Also, I added it to the OP already.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

I'll attempt this.

What do you See?

Look out the window,
can you tell me what you see?
Nothing but winter.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

I'm participating. Sorry I didn't vote, I keep forgetting. I honestly want to vote, and I'm sorry I didn't.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest IX (Signups and Submissions Taken Now!)

Updated. Just remember that this time, if you submit a haiku, you have to vote. I'll probably drop people a line via profile message to remind you, though, if I notice you have voted on the day before the poll gets closed.
