Biweekly Haiku & Short Poem Contest VIII

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Post here saying that you want to enter and you’ll be accepted. The cap for entries is slated at twenty contestants per round, and signups will end as soon as that number has been met, the deadline for entries has passed, or the thread sits for several days without any new entries (during which private submissions may be accepted via PM to me).

2.) Participation simply requires entrants to write a haiku (a poem with the alternating “Five-Seven-Five Syllables” per line format) or a similar-style short poem and post it here as an entry, though submitting them via PM or Profile Message to me is fine too. All poems are due by the second Thursday after this thread has been revealed, and voting begins once the deadline has passed or all entries are made. Submissions are final, but if I feel a poem should be revised slightly, I’ll do it with the writer’s consent.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is Food or Thanksgiving (if you celebrate the latter).

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Each person will be allowed three votes for their favorites. All participants are expected but not required to vote as well; however, you are not allowed to vote for your own (if I catch you doing so, you’ll be docked a point).

I shal be first to enter. So the theme I am guessing is about a feast. Sounds great. Here I go.

The feast is coming

Its Thanksgiving day

Updated! From now on, I think I'll just wait for a couple entries/submissions to be made here before updating the OP to make sure I don't bump this thread needlessly.

This genre might end up not produce one of my best haiku's, so I dont plan to get any votes

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest VIII (Signups/Submissions taken now!)

Thanksgiving:

sorry, I got the syllables wrong again. Edited.

A bright golden hue
Echoed words of thanks and love
Light and smiles shining.

I win real poetry contests, but I do terrible at these... maybe I'm better at longer poems...

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest VIII (Signups/Submissions taken now!)

Updated!

On a side note, I gave some thought to starting an occasional open-poem contest to go along with this one a little while ago, Empoleafeon. The only issue is that this is probably easier for most people to enter since it just involves writing short poems.

The Feast
Food on the platter,
The lid lifted; breaths taken;
Who's up for seconds?

Hope I'm not too late.

Please do this

A Poor Man's Thanksgiving
The table is barren
Not a morsel to be eaten
Thankful yet I am

Let me know if the last line doesn't make sense, it made more sense in my head then it does in text.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest VIII (Signups/Submissions taken now!)

Updated! I may just leave signups open right up until the deadline this time if interest picks up again. Otherwise, I'll probably close public ones tomorrow sometime. Again, I'll still take new entries via PM up until the deadline, and anyone who was already signed up but didn't get their entry in as soon as they entered.

@Zorua: I think I may start something soon to that effect then. I just have to prepare things for it first.
