Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Unlike previous rounds, signups will be based on the order in which submissions are made, meaning that all entries are to be made upfront (either here or via PM to me). The limit for entries is again set at fifteen participants, and once an entry is submitted it cannot be swapped out for something else or altered in any way.

2.) Submissions are expected to be haiku-style short poems (those with a “five-seven-five” syllable format spread out across three lines). However, other types of short poems will be accepted so long as they don’t exceed five lines in length. New entries will be accepted until Wednesday, February 8, 2012 around noon or until all slots have been filled.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is Love or Romance (Try to keep it family-friendly, please).

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. All participants are required to vote; however, you are not allowed to vote for your own (if I catch you doing so, you’ll be docked a point).

*Rules, timescales, and other parameters are subject to change without notice.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Signups added only after Submissions are made now!)

Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII submissions are now open!

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

I edited the title to clarify what I mean, in case anyone who's entered previous rounds gets confused. I'm asking for entries upfront this time because it's becoming harder to keep track of and organize entries when they get scattered throughout the thread. Also, I'm a little tired of people who forget they signup and don't make submissions on time. It's unfair for other potential entrants if all slots get filled but not everyone who signed up enters a poem.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

I'll enter.

By The Fire

Happy couples sit,
entranced by one another,
right by the fire.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

I'm in again!
Love and romance, eh?
I think i'll go with short poem just because I suck at counting syllables.

Warm Inside

You build up the nerve,
You're looking sideways,
Finally, finally
I love you.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Tonight and Forever
Now for this one night,
And for the rest of my life,
My heart is for you.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Updated! I also took a moment to rearrange the entry list so that names are listed with the poems instead of having separate entrants and submission lists. Let me know if it looks better organized that way or not, and I'll adjust it accordingly.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

If it's not too much trouble, I would suggest the following layout:

Title (by Author)

As an example:
Tonight and Forever (by The Fallen One)

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Utsukushii by [member]Hyper[/member]
Slender, calm, and strong
Lighting my heart on fire
And then animal

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Updated. I used a combination of Zy's suggested format and the one Hyper used (i.e. with [member] tags). Hopefully that looks better than the two separate lists I'd been using to this point.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

I shall try my hoof in this.

No Love or Romance
I would rather be solo
Then love somebody

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Night's Virtuoso by [member]Teal[/member]
Night's virtuoso
incurable criminal
got my heart fairplay.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

I shall join, give me a minute to get a poem written... Thanks to all the people who voted mine last time, 2 votes is a big deal for me :D

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Joining.

Lovely Night (By [member]Lucky Fire[/member])
It took a minute to realize-
the cooties doesn't exist,
but family love is a pleasure to have.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. But at least I tried. :p

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

@Martini: It's fine, just know that I'm not reserving slots this round.

I'll be updating this in a little bit. I got another submission via PM earlier today that I'll need to add too.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Glimmer (By Ice Arceus)
Looking at the stars
entranced by the glimmer of love
surrounding the night.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

And Updated! Sorry for the delay, but I haven't had a chance to get online since early this morning and wanted to wait until I actually got to the library before making any serious updates. Hopefully everything's squared away for the time being.

Again, I am no longer reserving slots for the haiku/short-poem contest (not with this round, at least). I feel like it's a bit unfair to the people who actually do get them in when some others who signup tend to forget to submit entries. If you want to enter a poem, try to get it in either before the final deadline or before entries are filled.

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Wow. I forgot to put a title for my entry.

*Bangs head against wall*

I guess it doesn't really matter, right?

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Date Night (By: Martini
A wonder it is
A girl like her would
Have a seat tonight

That's it Made while I was brushing my teeth :)

RE: Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XIII (Submissions due upon signup this round.)

Updated!

Don't worry about titling your work, Kecleon-X. Some people just add them for the heck of it. By rights, short poems and haikus don't normally have them and aren't really supposed to. This isn't a formal competition, so I just let entrants write them however they want and add their poems so long as they follow the rules.
