Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XXXVI

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Signups will again be based on the order in which submissions are made, meaning that all entries are to be made upfront (either here or via PM to me). The limit for entries is again set at fifteen participants. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be swapped out for something else or altered in any way.

2.) Submissions are expected to be haiku-style short poems (those with a “five-seven-five” syllable format spread out across three lines). However, other types of short poems will be accepted so long as they don’t exceed four lines in length. New entries will be accepted until Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 around noon or until all slots are filled.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round); however, please note that poems posted with intent to troll or written up stupidly will be disqualified automatically. This contest’s theme is Christmastime.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. If more than eight entries are submitted, then participants may vote for their own poem. However, if less are entered, then they may not and a point will be deducted from the score of anyone who does so.

*Rules, timescales, and other parameters are subject to change without notice.

Entry List (Title/Author Set-up)

1.) { It's not Christmas till you're here } (By [member]Grumpigfarmer[/member])
Merry Christmas? I say to myself, watching a snowflake melt as it hits a green holiday light.
Knowing that it's just not the same if your not here by my side. All I want, need, and love for Christmas is you.
I don't want the snow, I don't need the lights, and I don't love feeling lonely.
Please come home, come home and let's have ourselves a Merry little Christmas tonight.

2.) Christmas (By [member]Kecleon-X[/member])
Christmas isn't about presents, who's edges protrude, or a fat man breaking in and stealing food.
It isn't about twinkling lights, decorated trees, or water in the sky beginning to freeze.
Christmas is about something wonderful and true: It is about the deepest love for me and you.

3.) The Best Parts of Christmas. (By [mod]Serperior[/mod])
Relaxed, warm, cozy.
Friends close, hearts soft, smiles shine.
These - the perfect gifts.

4.) Christmastime (By [member]CJBlazerX87[/member])
Well, its Christmas
Snow falls from the sky outside
while we are warm inside

5.) Donation to the Poor (By [member]Luckyfire[/member])
The days leading up to Christmas... filled with joy and kindness.
Ah, but alas, for the poor, it is a merciful time. They wish to live like a princess.
This is a time of the year in which we donate to the poor and those who are in need of help.

6.) Advent (By [mod]DNA[/mod])
Herald the entry
Of humanity's Savior
To our humble world.

7.)Christmas Music (By Articuno)
The sweet lullaby,
the band's rhythmic cadence,
such heavenly timbre.

8.)A Holiday Epoch (By [mod]Nigel[/mod])
A frigid, glacial gale
Converges with the dim moonlight
A wayfarer such as I
Inside, wrapped in a cocoon of warmth

I need to make a note about poems like these. I allow them, but on the condition they actually sound like a serious entry. The general idea of a short-poem is that it is short in terms of the amount of words and lines. I may open up an open poem contest where almost anything is allowed, but that might not be until after the holidays.

You don't have to enter mine if you don't want to. I can try to write a haiku instead if you want:)

No, no! It's fine. I just wanted to make a note about poems with lengthy lines.

The Best Parts of Christmas.

Friends close, hearts soft, smiles shine.
These - the perfect gifts.

Had to change my title or voting would be a pain with everyone's title being "Christmas" lol.

This is just a personal note, but I may not be online via wifi until after Christmas. I will add any new entries next Wednesday, if other mods don't get to them first.

Donation to the Poor (By Luckyfire)

Is this acceptable? Or is it too long?

Christmastime? Okay, challenge accepted.

Advent
Herald the entry
Of humanity's Savior
To our humble world.

I also updated the OP, up to this entry.

It's fine. I just don't want them to be the only thing people are submitting.

Also, thanks, DNA!

You do realize I don't participate to win, but to have fun with it, right? And this time around I'm not even allowed to vote for myself.
