Hi everyone!

I just recently got back into the game by attending the HSU pre-release tournament in my area. I'd really like to get back into the game again, but I have a couple of questions

1) Other than all my Base Set - Neo Destiny cards, the only new things I have are the cards I got from the pre-release. What's the best way to get the best cards from each set (common and uncommon namely) without buying boosters from each set from before?

2) How do major competitions work? The last card game I played (Vs. System) had tournaments where you could get qualifying points for Nationals all the time, and you could even qualify yourself by winning a Limited tournament. How does it work for Pokemon (I know there's regionals, but how often are those?) ?

3) Do Dark and Metal energies still have their special effects? Are they basic energies now?

4) What are my chances of finding people who actually want old cards?

5) I heard all cards from Diamond + Pearl and up are eligible to play. When will this change again and what sets are going to be eliminated from rotation?

1.) The best way to get a collection is to buy a box. ABout $85, if you buy one, I would suggest buying PT-on, as the sets before that are expected to get ROtated.

2.) In all honesty, I don't know.

3.) They come both as basics now, and Specials that still have the effects.

4.) Actually pretty good. There will sometimes be a lot of younger kids at a tournament wanting old cards.

5.) The rotation will happen after Worlds this year, and although it hasn't been confirmed yet, he general thought is that DP-SF will be rotated, leaving PT-on, as I said before.

As for commons and uncommons(probably Trainers), it's just best to buy a lot of packs or a box. Otherwise, rares can easily be obtained through ebay.

There are basic Dark and Metal, though they are just basic and have no effects.

Nobody knows what cards will be rotated, I just started as well and I'm waiting for the rotation so I can start building my deck.
Just to be on the very safe side, I've only been buying and building a deck starting from HGSS.
