Hi I've recently got back into pokemon after not collecting since team rocket when i was in secondary school so I decided to pick up some of the newer set and I recently bought a complete set of heartgold/soul silver from ebay.
I was sent a foil noctowl but also a non foil one I wasn't aware there were non foil version of the foil cards in this set :s

I also recieved what seems to be a reverse foil arcanine, hitmontop and slowking where their picture isn't foil but the rest of the cards are but I thought the reverse foils for this set said heartgold/soulsilver on them if they were reverse holo.

could someone explain this to me as I'm a bit confused as to how many versions of each card there are.

there is a normal set and a reverse set in each collection (since legendary collection). You will find 1 Reverse card in each booster pack, with random frecuency (except ultrarares) . In the theme decks you will find exclusive cards that you dont find in the booster packs. For example cards with different holo version, cards that arent holo but yes in the theme decks, and cards that usually are holos but no in the theme decks, like your noctowl. This theme decks exclusive cards are considered as promos. If i were you, i would buy the holo noctowl and the regular versions of yours reverses. If you have reverse and regular, your set collection is a "mix". Many people collect al the reverses and all the regular, but other people do the mix. I expect have help you. Sorry for my basic english xD

I just wanted to be sure you are aware that cards from the HGSS sets aren't legal for tournament play. You mentioned collecting and not playing, so you probably don't care, but if you do, I just want to throw that out there.

There are normally sigle Reverse card inth pack and it is of random frecuency . But in this theme decks are exclusive cards which is not find in the booster packs normally.
