Hearthstone is a free-to-play online CCG by Blizzard. It's currently in public beta.

You can play as 9 different heroes that have a different hero spell and different cards available (+ all can use neutral cards). Each hero has 30 HP.

In a match you summon minions (have x attack and y health, every battle costs them the health that the opponent has in attack) to battle for you and cast spells and possibly equip weapons and attack yourself too. (With minion [= monster] cards and spell cards.) You do all of this with mana. You start off with 1 mana crystal, and gain an additional one every turn (max. 10). Each card costs mana to activate. At the start of each turn, you recover all your mana.

You gain boosters with 5 additional cards by getting gold by doing "quests" (you recieve one quest every day and you can have max. 3 quests at once). Usually they require you to win 2 games with a certain hero or stuff like 3 wins (with any hero) or killing X minions in any amount of games etc.
From a quest you get 40 gold, and with 100 gold you can get a booster. Additionally you get 10 gold from every three wins, too. This normally makes one booster every two days. You can also buy boosters with real money, if you really want to (2 for $2,5).

I just started, anyone else playing?

RE: Hearthstone

I've heard of it, Blizzard Entertainment killed the World of Warcraft TCG to make this happen which upset some of my friends who used to play the World of Warcraft TCG and the fact that Hearthstone is an online exclusive doesn't sit well for me when Blizzard doesn't offer players a choice with a paper version when there's still a market for print media these days but it seems to me like Blizzard doesn't want to compete against Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Vanguard, and Kaijudo in terms of paper TCG's when players can only afford to play at least 2-3 TCG/CCG's simultaneously.

I think the biggest reason why Hearthstone is getting alot of hype right now is because people didn't like how Wizards of the Coast is managing Magic Online so they went with Hearthstone instead because it's free to play instead of having to pay microtransactions to build decks online. Unlike what Blizzard did with Hearthstone by replacing it's paper version with the World of Warcraft TCG, Wizards doesn't aim to replace Paper Magic with Magic Online and it shouldn't. It should still be respected as a tool for people who simply want to get better at the game but not as a replacement for the LGS (local game store) social aspect.

RE: Hearthstone

I need to rez this thread.
Hearthstone is so fun. Currently playing Druid Murloc, its so consistent but if your opponent has any common sense it can be difficult.

RE: Hearthstone

I only tried Hearthstone 'cos of the mount award in WoW. I wasn't very impressed. True, the game has its fun moments, but 30-card decks, all heroes having the same HP, 2 copies per card and limitation in resources are all big no-no's. I've played YGOTCG, Pokemon TCG, WoWTCG and a little Magic: The Gathering, and Heartstone seems inferior to all of them. You have too limited options, and there's no way to develop a personal playstyle. It looks more like a game I'd download for my phone rather than a game made by Blizzard.
