Hello I need some help

Hey I have not played pokemon in over 3 years, but I want to get back into the game. I have a bunch of old cards and I was wondering can I use almost any cards in my deck or no? If not could someone tell me the limitations on what cards I can and can't use thanks a lot. :)

To answer your question, the current format is MD-on.

Sets allowed are:
Majestic Dawn
Legend Awakened
Stormfront
Platinum
Rising Rivals
Supreme Victors
Arceus
HeartGold and Soul Silver
Unleashed
Undaunted
Rumble Promos
Black Star Promo 34 and up

Also, you can use older cards that have been reprinted in later sets that are legal for Premier tournament use, such as Pluspower, Potion, Special Dark and Metal Energies, and even Double Colorless Energy.

Okay thanks it helped out quite a bit. I think I will need to get all new cards to battle with then, also could someone tell me if there is any tournaments around Chula Vista California for pokemon?
