Hi I have a little brother (4) and I am trying to get him into the game, he is very creative and advanced for his aged. He knows the basics to play though he does need to a reminder to draw a card every turn. :p

So far he has been playing with fake cards (Uno cards he imagines are the real deal :p) and I have been saving money to buy him a Nightfall deck since it has 2 pokemon communication and 2 umbreon. I was just wondering if i should do that or just buy him some boosters.

Please tell me some ideas that would help

P.S. He cannot read, but he can memorize what the cards do.

I know somebody in the exact same situation. I would highly recommend you buy two decks (maybe the Umbreon and the Espeon decks). Play games with him AS OFTEN AS HE WANTS. If you don't play with him, he will lose interest. Make sure you switch decks every so-often to keep things interesting. Keeping sure that he has good cards is UNIMPORTANT. He will not care most likely. Make sure he plays against kids somewhere around his age to ensure things aren't too unfair for him. Perhaps share your theme decks with his friends. Perhaps get him some cards later on. Ensure that they are playable for his deck. Boosters are not recommended... maybe if we get some Eeveelutions tins, grab those. Just ensure that the game is constantly supported. He will eventually learn to read and get that much more into the game. Perhaps when he becomes a solid reader, you should bring him to league and start buying cards for him. Just keep showing him how amazing you are because you play Pokemon. Try to beat him 60% of the time (with your starter deck) near the beginning. When you feel he is ready for league play (within a year or a year and a half) start losing to him 65% of the time. Perhaps bring him to a standard league...

I recomend you get the HS starter kit. It has two 30 card decks, and a booster. It is like $13.00, same as the Nightfall, or Daybreak. Let him use the Riachu one because it beats Gyrados( {L} to {W} ). Let him win some.

Yeah definitely let him win alot. Maybe even most of the time, because no kid likes to lose. Dont make it obvious, but just make sure that he's not losing every game. But yeah, giving him a deck with a huge advantage over yours is a great choice, since you can play hard and still lose.

That is what I do for my dad. He is the only person I can play against enless I go to a tourny(I don't go to leageu :( ) He isn't very good, he only does it to spend time with me, doing my hobbies. So I play Genplume, so I gave him a Umbreon deck. It hits my weakness, and he has resitance, and with 'Moonlight Fang' nobody in my deck can hit him. I still beat him though, he only uses quick blow, he just goes for powerful attacks.

4 years old? teach him how to play properly and see how long can he play a game without getting bored

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!! My Dad and Mom both disagree with me and my brother's pokemon "obsession" so I only go to league like every 3 Months and have NEVER gone to any sanctioned tournament.

I think I will actually buy the Starter Kit instead as it is worth the money and it will give him the staples he needs.
