Hi, I'm quite new to the forums and I wanted to know about a Yanmega Break/Vespiqueen deck. I'm only 13 (don't click off thx) so I can't really afford expensive cards like Shaymin, Hoopa and cards like that. I have all the staples, DCE's draw supporters Ultra balls and stuff. I can make a deck list that I have at the moment. I have all the Pokémon except for one Octillery line and Yanmega Break.

Please tell me what you guys think or anything you can add. I really appreciate it. Thank you!

Also, I really want to get in to more competitive play. Should I continue with this idea, or ditch it and go for Volcanion or M Mewtwo - EX or something. Thanks!

Moved from the TCG Competitive to the TCG Help & Advice as the OP is a new competitive player looking for help. ~bbninjas

Hi and welcome to PokéBeach.

Following are a few thoughts for your consideration:

  • Since you like Yanmega and Vespiquen (note that this Pokémon rotated out of Standard format play last month), checkout the Deck Garage Forum for deck examples. You can just search for Yanmega and Vespiquen and you'll find a variety of decks.
  • In the current Standard format play, chances are you will see decks (resulting from your Deck Garage deck searching)that feature Yanmega teamed up with Vileplume. Vespiquen was also combo'd with a variety of other Pokémon too, including Vileplume.
  • Review the different decks, then draft your own build and submit it into the Deck Garage for further specific, deck improvement feedback.
  • Test your deck online and/or live (even if you have to use proxies); further refine your list, and test more till you like your build. Then get (borrow, buy and/or trade) for any cards you might need for upcoming tournaments.
Also, I really want to get in to more competitive play. Should I continue with this idea, or ditch it and go for Volcanion or M Mewtwo - EX or something. Thanks!
IMO, this is a decision you need to arrive at for yourself. Study all these decks, plus other 'top" decks; play-test the ones that seem to appeal to you most; and then determine which one you like most.

You may read a variety of online articles about tournament results and which were the so-called 'top" decks, but also keep in mind that the tournament could have a large player population running the same decks (which can skew "top" deck results; i.e., "top" deck does not necessarily mean "best" deck), those top players may have had favorable tournament match-ups (e.g., Volcanion deck player may not have encountered any opponent running a deck with Garbodor which shuts down Volcanion EX), played against less skilled opponents, had great draws throughout the tournament, experienced no "bad" luck, etc.

All decks have their poor match-ups; so, don't let that discourage. Try and test them all; then you're in a better position to make an informed deck selection for yourself (even if it may not be a "popular" deck).
