Hello, it is my first time posting on pokebeach, so lets hope this post is a good one. I've only been playing Pokemon for 2 months or so, but have money to spend on singles etc. I'm 13 so not a ridiculous amount and I also have stuff to trade, which i will post later.(I'm trading my friend for a wartortle tomorrow, and planning on buying another wartortle and blastoise online.) If you could send a modified deck list with cards i didn't even think of etc thats okay too.

Pokemon-14
  • 2 Vannilite PLF
  • 1 Vannilish PLF
  • 2 Vannilluxe PLF
  • 2 Squirtle PLB
  • 1 Wartortle PLB
  • 1 Blastoise PLB
  • 2 Suicune PLB
  • 1 Keldeo EX
  • 2 Kangaskhan PLB
Trainers-32
  • 3 Skyla
  • 3 Proffesor Juniper
  • 2 N
  • 4 Pokemon Catcher
  • 2 HT Laser
  • 3 Rare Candy
  • 2 Hugh
  • 1 Cheren
  • 2 Cilan
  • 3 Ultra Ball
  • 1 Colress
  • 1 Ghetsis
  • 1 VB gym
  • 1 Silver Mirror
  • 1 Energy Retrieval
  • 1 Superior Energy Retrieval
  • 1 Dowsing Machine
Energy-14
  • 14 Water Basic
Strategy: My main strategy is to put as many energies on my vanilluxe as possible that way I get more flips to hit for 60 damage. I can use suicune to stall and silver bangle with him set up can 2HKO any EX. I have Blastoise in there to energy accelerate for my Vannilluxe.

Cards I think I should add:
1 Keldeo EX
2 Rare Candies
1-2 more Pokemon Catchers
2 Wartortle
1 Squirtle
1 Blastoise

Cards I think I should take out-
1 Super Rod
1 Iris
1 Reversal Trigger
1 Escape Rope
4 Snorunt
3 Glalie
1 Frosslass
1-2 Team Plasma Ball

So what do you think? Any help is appreciated, considering that I just got into pokemon cards recently. If you have any of the cards I think I should add, maybe I can trade for them, as I dont have most of them currently. If you think I should add any pokemon cards I hadn't thought of let me know. What I want to take out will most likely be for trade and I have some other cards for trade in my binder.

Thank You,
MTM

As far as I can tell, you've got the right idea overall.

Some recommendations I can give are:
  • Completely remove Snorunt, Froslass, and Glalie. Glalie is pretty mediocre for a stage 1, and Frosslass's ability is relatively niche and requires her to be active.
  • Generally, in blastoise decks, running wartortle is avoided because it makes setting up a blastoise just that much more difficult. Instead, use 4 rare candies and more skylas to ensure a quick set up. Vanilluxe itself is also a bit difficult to set up, so those rare candies could be useful in the scenario that you end up having one, a vanilluxe in hand, and a vannilish on the bench. Make sure you save one or two for blastoise though, just in case.
  • Dowsing machine is viable in this sort of deck, but if you find setting up in the early game annoying, you might want to replace it with computer search
  • Escape rope is not very good, as you don't get to choose what your opponent switches in. Instead, use pokemon catchers and (if status really bothers you) some switch cards.
  • Run more superior energy retrieval
  • Black-Kyurem-EX is the staple for blastoise decks, so you might want to run one.
  • If you do add in Keldeo-EX, make sure to also add in a float stone or two, just to take full advantage of Rush In

Okay,
  • Since you aren't running any Virbank City Gym, and the extra damage doesn't really mean too much to Vanilluxe (in most situations, anyways) I would drop both Hypnotoxic Lasers
  • Since you're not really running too many basics, and only a few are actually good attackers (and since you're already running 4 ultra balls) I would drop both Kangaskhan.
  • Finally, do really drop Wartortle. Getting set up for this deck already seems hard enough without spending an extra turn evolving.
  • In exchange, carry another set (or two) of squirtle and blastoise, As you would otherwise be highly vulnerable to Blastoise just getting catchered up and KO'd before you can use it.
  • Also, use squirtle from Boundaries Crossed, not Plasma Blast. It's shell shield ability is really useful in a couple of matchups.

I changed my deck again and got this, what do you think? (I really want to keep my Vannilite line going as I don't want it to be just like every other Blastoise/Keldeo deck.)

I was considering getting 1 more Blastoise and one more Keldeo EX and then calling it a day until the next rotation comes around. Any other cards I should put in/take out etc?

Remember to edit your OP when you update your deck, as not to clutter up the thread with decklists! I'm going to go ahead and do that for you, but remember to do that, next time! :D ~Kecleon
