Card of the Day: Ho-Oh EX
119-ho-oh-ex.jpg

Pros
-160HP is nice for a basic.
-Colorless attack makes it splashable.
-Energy accelerator.
-Can catch opponent offguard with ability.
-Good discard fodder (while also making use of energy discarded)
-Fighting resistance.

Cons
-Terrible attack.
-Requires using multiple energy types to be even close to good.
-Weakness to water.
-Gives your opponent two prizes.
-2 retreat (easy catcher bait and can't be searched by heavy ball)
-Ability is on a flip.

Overall, I don't think it's very good. It has combo potential. but a lot of that is hurt by the fact that you need multiple energy types. This limits it's use to only a few niche decks.

6/10: It's unique, but there are better choices.

Artwork: 10/10 (one of the coolest pictures ever)

ho oh is hecka cool
it's such an interesting mechanic as a deck
with that power and everything
and the amount of different things you can play with it is great
and the art on both versions is gr8
i give it an 8/10

The fact that is uses multiple types of energies is actually its selling point, in my opinion. There are no limitations to what you can pair it with because it can accelerate any type of energy. I suppose you could use it to power up Darkrai if you wanted to with attachment for turn, Dark Patch, and Energy Swich any type off of a Rebirth'd Ho-Oh (Note: I don't recommend this.) For the most part, the specific type of energy doesn't matter because there are some great colorless attackers who appreciate the acceleration and have decent synergy with energy manipulation (Mewtwo, Tornadus EX, etc.), but the variety of types allows for some interesting tecs such as multiple Terrakions and Sigilyph. I've heard of Virizion EP being used as well for Keldeo.

The attack isn't too bad since it's basically 80 for 0 (unless you start with it, then it's 80 for 3, which is terrible).

I think I'd give it an 8.5/10

FA: 8/10
RA: 8.0001/10

I don't like the fullarts as much for some reason...

The fact that it requires multiple energy isn't bad, and is actually a positive if you think about it. In Ho-oh decks, you mainly run colorless attackers (tornadus, mewtwo, bouffalant, etc.), with a few coverage attackers. So, the colorless attackers don't care what types of energy are attached, as long as there is energy. The fact that it needs multiple types of energy means that you can run 2-3 different coverage attackers (Terrakion, Shaymin, Sigilyph, the possibilities are endless). Honestly, Ho-oh decks should run Ho-oh as a helpful bonus, not rely completely on rebirth, otherwise the flip will come back to bite them.

Art: Love the background!!!

Ho-oh has decent HP for an EX. 160 isn't as bad as Shaymin or Mew. Unfortunately it's weak to water. Fortunately, it's resistant to Fighting, which is kind of cool against Landorus. The attack can be useful but requires a lot of setup. The ability is great. Not only does it get Ho-oh set up to attack, but you can also use Energy Switch to accelerate energies onto other Pokémon. With blastoise/keldeo being good but also with Landorus being good, this card is very reliant on what deck it goes up against. I would hate to start with it against a Blastoise/Keldeo deck.

6.5/10 for playability

10/10 for artwork. One of the only cards where I actually like the Full Art better than the regular. That artwork is just awesome.
