Ruling How many Active Pokemon????

In many new cards like Dark Dragonite they attack each defending pokemon.

Im relatively new to PTCG and I thought that you could only have one active pokemon at a time. If not, how many?

There's a double battling type of game and a single battling type of game. ALL competitive are single tournaments are Single though, so it's just 1.

So to sum it up:
Single = 1 Pokemon, and this is all you'll probably ever play competitively.
Double = 2 Pokemon.

Just to clarify:

If you are playing a standard 1v1 match, cards that affect "each" Defending Pokémon can obviously only target the only Defending Pokémon there is.

If you are playing 2v2, cards that do NOT say "each" Defending Pokémon, but rather, "the" Defending Pokémon, you choose which of the Defending Pokémon to target.
