In the spirit of the new X and Y games coming ,every time you play a Pokemon game for the first time ,do you feel like slow down with the game and take your time traveling and explore or do you prefer finishing the story as fast as you can ?
For example, when Pokemon B2W2 came out I wanted to finish the game but in the same time I didn't want the game to end so fast so it took me 2 months to finish it despite being able to do it in a few days.

What about you? How long does it usually takes you to finish the storyline ? What is your personal game pase ?
Just thought to ask because especially for this time many of us are going to start together in the same time and thanks to the PSS we are going to meet each other during the game play

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

It usually takes me about a week since I got into the habit of talking to every person I can find and occasionally get stuck at a gym.

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

I also like to talk to a lot of people and grinding can take a while.

Unfortunately I always complete the story within around 2 days (sometimes a little bit less) because I get obsessive and can't stop playing haha :(
But to be fair I researched the games a lot before hand because they were always released in Japan first like 4-8 months before hand so all the info was accessible so I knew exactly what I was doing, which of course made the game shorter for me. I tried to stop myself from reading the info but I just couldn't. Although this time around we all get to experience the game at the same time!. This means now that we can all explore Kalos together and this time around I will not know much about the story and what to do/where to go straight away. So hopefully this means that I will take longer to complete the game! .^_^.

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

I really hate going through a game I like really fast.
I want to experience the adventure for as long as possible!
No speeding through the game for me!
That's why I've come up with a rule for this playthrough of Pokemon Y: No Night Playing.
A majority of my Pokemon games were played at night, and as a result, I completed the game within two weeks.
I didn't like that at all.
I wanted more!

I imagine that Y will take a whole lot longer to play, mostly due to the fact that we no longer have sprites. It's full 3D models now.
It'll take some time getting used to the new overworld, despite it still being locked to a grid.

I'm just hoping X and Y will have me playing in the main story for about three months.
Then I will be happy.

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

I don't like to rush through my games. I I'm going to wait for YEARS to play a game, I'm taking my sweet time to enjoy every bit of it, dammit. Seriously though, I do like to take it slow and explore or just appreciate all that I can. I also like to discover most things on my own without the help of the internet unless I am looking for something very specific. I will probably play Pokemon X for quite some time before beating it. I think Black 2 had me working on it for at least 2 months. I might have beaten the league in one month but I know there is plenty more to do after that so... I'm not entirely sure but definitely not in a day like some people. I feel like if I get too many badges a day, its like I am rushing through and won't even remember the experience.

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

My first playthrough I speed through in a day or two hahaha. After that, I like to take my time.

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

It kinda depends on how I want to play it. Usually about 1 week - 6 weeks, if I play normally. Training my team is what I do really often - that sometimes takes over 3 days.

If I just wanna try how fast I am, it's usually one week. I'm not particularly the fastest speedrunner ever. xD

RE: How quickly do you play through a Pokémon game?

Usually I'll get through in about 5-8 days and then spend hours on all the end game stuff like competitive battling, catching 'em all, exploring.

This time round I plan to spend more time playing through the story as I intend to capture all the Pokémon in each area as I go as well as have the correct natures on my party Pokémon! Should be fun!

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I take too long playing any Pokemon games. Even when I start a new journey (buying a new game for me, since I don't restart any of my games), it takes me too long to finish.

I explore everywhere, I talk with everyone, I challenge all trainers even in the gym, I battle all wild Pokemon I encounter (unless I"m rushing to a Pokemon Center).

Every time I get access to a new HM, I'll return back and explore everything I missed, areas that weren't accessible without the HM. In my current White 2 "All Watchog Team" I"m a little over 200 hours (202.50 hours, checked) and only have 5 badges.

It will be the same with XY, I'll take my time and explore, challenge all the trainers, and battle the wild Pokemon (unless I need to rush to a Pokemon Center).

How is that even possible? My slow games take about 50 hours.

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I don't like rushing through the games; I usually take a week or two to complete it.
However with new releases it's a different matter.... I complete HG in 3 days, White in 1 (well, the main story), and W2 took me about 2 full days with a bit to complete.

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I like to take my time in the games and explore as much as I can without my memory span forgetting where I'm supposed to go next. Not a big fan of speed running through playthrough, only time I did that i missed much of the storyline and kinda regretted it.

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

Usually I speed run through the game, then restart and go back and play through normally.

Exhibit A: First run through of Pokemon Black: Around 12 hours (4 days)
Exhibit B: Second run through: Around 2 weeks.

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

Most games a week or two, because I do not like to rush too much.

IF I do rush, I usually can finish in a day or two. My record is 30 hours.
I've never finished SoulSilver, mostly due to the fact that I can't seem to get a Vaporeon or Jolteon. :I

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

When I first play a game I tend to go quite slowly, talking to everyone and piling up all te items. However I do play it quite often when I first get it so it doesn't take too long. When playing a game I have played before though, it definitely goes a lot quicker.

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I actually haven't even finished B2's post-game. I guess I wasn't into the sequels as much as I thought I'd be.

I think it's safe to say that each game takes me a week (maybe a little less). I try to limit myself to one gym per day, but it's so darn difficult!

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I don't rush things at all. Actually, it took me about 50 hours fo finish the Top4 in white2.
I like to talk to all NPC's, like to train all of my Pokémon equally, and just run around and to see the beautiful area. Hopefully X and Y will take as long as white2!

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

I try not to rush through the games, but I usually finish them after about 40 hours the first time through. The fastest I've gone through a game was Emerald at about 16 or so hours. I love to talk to people, see new wild Pokemon, and battle everyone I can. Sometimes I go on shiny hunts. I tend to breed, also so this takes up quite some time. :p

RE: How Quickly Do You Play Through a Pokémon Game?

First time through a game, especially a new region, I semi-rush: I still take the time to build a full team over time along the way, and I beat up every trainer I can find, explore every side passage, etc...but at the same time, I don't really stop and smell the roses; I usually skip over the non-battle stuff (contests and the like), at least until the postgame. I usually beat the E4 within 2-3 days of getting the game for the first time (not sure of the game-time, probably 25-30 hours?). In later playthroughs I might be a bit more leisurely - I already have an understanding of what the region contains, so I don't quite feel the urge to explore as much, the rush to see everything. I dunno.
