How Would You Improve the Pokémon Movies?

We all have different opinions about the Pokemon movies. There may be a few things that you enjoyed in a certain movie, and a few things that you believe they could have done a better job with in that movie (like improving the personalities of a certain character). So, what would you improve about the Pokemon movies (be specific in which movie you would improve on when explaining)? Would you improve the storyline? Character personalities? Pokemon Appearances?

RE: How would you improve the Pokemon movies?

I hated everything about the Keldeo movie, because half of the time it felt like nothing was going on and the other half it felt like things were too rushed. Also, almost nothing is explained in the whole movie, like how Keldeo met with the Muskdeers and how Kyurem could transform back and fourth between Black and White formes.

The animation. No more CGI cel-shaded Pokemon, please. They stick out like a sore thumb because their movement is much more fluid compared to everything else and it takes away from the immersion. I prefer everything to have one consistent animation style.

Plot-wise, I think there's been a shift of focus away from the Pokemon themselves, and more to... plot... objects. Like the floating building nonsense in M14, or the musical tower dealie in M10, and etc. I prefer when the main Pokemon of the movie is given time to develop as a character, like M1's Mewtwo. That movie was full of plot holes, but it felt like it actually had permanence, as opposed to "wellp a bad thing is happen ash and co gonna save the day again lol"

RE: How would you improve the Pokemon movies?

For me, the main thing that I feel needs improving in the Pokémon movies is definitely the animation of the characters / Pokémon. Maybe I'm being too critical, but the overall animation quality in the majority of the films feels very low in many scenes. Don't get me wrong - there are still scenes that feel like they've been done well, but those are far outnumbered by the scenes that feel lacking. Giving the human characters more fluid / realistic animations would help a great deal, and that's where I feel they need to improve the most.

Unlike frezgle I'm not against the use of 3D models, but they have to be used in a way that doesn't make them stand out from the hand-drawn animation. Finding that balance seems to be incredibly difficult, but with the improvement to the overall animation quality I think it'd be much easier to achieve.

Making the plot or action more "mature" would be a nice change, as well. The B2W2 animé short felt like a step in the right direction as far as the action is concerened. Again, there are some moments in the Pokémon movies where the action is right where it needs to be, but most of the time it feels lacking. This probably goes hand-in-hand with the animation aspect.

Play them into the storyline of the regular seasons. Bring back old characters like Misty, May, Max, Tracey, or Brock, or people Ash has met in older regions to the movies so we can see the characters we miss.

RE: How would you improve the Pokemon movies?

I want a movie about other Pokémon trainers. A trainer that is more capable of Pokémon battling than Ash. :l

RE: How would you improve the Pokemon movies?

Like the Gold, Silver & Crystal chapter (Adventures) sagas in the manga! Making a movie out of the manga sounds interesting and I would love that too, but it seems very unlikely...

Adding a deeper plot could improve the movies. I just don't feel that the movies contain that, and that they escalate way to quickly. It starts one second and then finishes the next. It would work as a series of movies connected directly, like a planned out set. This would add some meaning to the overall collection of the set, and would span over time, causing more interest.

RE: How would you improve the Pokemon movies?

Make the plot anything other than the following:

ash and gang on da adventure
oh hello legendary pokemon you so cute
oh noes da evil human/pokemon gunna destroy teh world
*legendary sacrifices self to beat da evil pokemon/human*
*ash cry face ;_;*
oh it turns out legendary isn't dead after all yay!
ok bye legendary pokemon you'll never be mentioned again

THE END

Except in Pokémon Heroes, Latios is permanently dead.

Thus making it one of the better movies. You see my point?

There's actually a mini series (yes t.v. show) Boomerang showed it awhile back, which had the male and female from GSC (the male being main character). You could probably find it online somewhere, and I know it had a name as well, but I forgot unfortunately :/

For one, I think I would use more than just one or two or three legendaries, heck, have a battle galore, you know that'd be cool. In the end I think one of the legendaries would sacrifice themselve(s) (sacrifice meaning dead) to restore order. OH and no "mythical energy" that could destroy the world. That has seriously been overdone. (I guess this could be a Pokemon 2000/Pokemon Heroes mash-up)

EDIT: AND NO SLOW BEGINNINGS

That's Pokemon Chronicles :p

Yes this has been wayyyy overdone. The whole legendary sacrificing itself for the greater good is getting old. It's a noble element, and it's been pretty fly in the other movies, but it's about time to move away from that.

What kind of plot alternatives could there be? How could they bring a new concept regarding the legendaries to the movies?

Pokemon Chronicles! That's it. It really wasn't bad, I liked it.

Everyone dies, especially Ash who suffers a slow painful death and he looks back on his battles and realizes he's a complete scrub at battling Sacrificing hasn't been overdone. Surviving yes, but not dying *Pokemon Heroes*

Edit: You could make an ironic twist and have a Pokemon try and manipulate/capture other Pokemon *NOT THINKING OF MEWTWO :p

I am also not against the use of CGI in the movies, but I don't want the animators to rely entirely on this. I want to see a balance between hand-drawn and 3D models, and as you mentioned, the models should be worked on so they tie in perfectly with the surrounding artwork. Having a realistic model of Genesect next to the hand-drawn characters would just look awful and unprofessional.
