Expanded I Need Someone Who's Good at Expanded!

I'm new to the Expanded format so I'd like some feedback on my Golisopod GX/Seismitoad EX deck. I got the initial idea for this build from OmniPoke's recent video. However, I have made some pretty significant changes, due to both personal preference and limited Expanded card selection.

He ran a 2-2 line of Octillery that I replaced with 1 Keldeo EX and 2 Float Stones. Octillery is great, but I like Keldeo's ability+Float Stone to make sure I'm getting 120+ First Impressions off more consistently.

He also ran 3 Virbank City Gym, which I would love to run, but I don't have any online (if you have any for trade, let me know and maybe we can work something out). From there I added in some cards like Heavy Ball, a fourth VS Seeker, and a couple more Energy. Outside of those changes, the deck's strategy is the same.

The strategy of this deck is to combo Golisopod's First Impression with Hypnotoxic Laser (and Virbank City Gym if I had it) to get OHKOs for only 1 Grass Energy, while Seismitoad is used to Item lock my opponent. Seismitoad also helps cover Golisopod's Fire-type weakness, and a Choice Banded Quaking Punch with Hypnotoxic Laser is enough to knock out many Fire-types.

Any feedback is appreciated! Like I said, I'm new to the Expanded format so I'm sure there's cards and combos I'm missing.

I'm really good at expanded, its my favorite format.

I see nothing wrong with you list, and its an interesting idea. I rarely, almost never, watch YouTube videos on things like this, but the guy you mentioned seems to know what he is doing.

Anyway, here are some suggestions/comments:

- Is 4 Choice Band really needed?

- I would really add 3 Virbanks, I know they're pretty expensive though

- Maybe a 2 Battle Compressors might help. Most expanded decks run them to thin your deck out. You can toss supporters for later game VS Seekers, Choice Bands if your opponent doesn't play GX/EX, this card is just too good not to run; even as a 1 of.

Omnipoke is a Poketuber I feel eh about. A lot of Poketubers tend to stop using Shaymin, but don't forget that we haven't used Jirachi much in expanded(Even though 90HP is a slightly different mess) over Shaymin for a reason. Things like Battle Compressor or Computer Search makes Lele and Jirachi less useful, since decks are so consistent, that searching for a Supporter isn't all that necessary, because we can usually already draw what we need. I would suggest 4 Super Scoop Up, a 2-2 Silent Lab/ Virbank split, and a 3rd Toad. I would drop down to 2 Lele, add a Shaymin, maybe drop the Koko for a support Mon with a good Ability(I'm too lazy to research and give a suggestion). These combinations are what makes Toad decks good, and Item lock is super good right now in expanded, so basing the deck around Toad is better than around Golisopod. Reason being is that Trees, Turbo Dark, and Night March destroy you otherwise(Maybe not Night March because Karen, but their early game is much better than yours). I'm not so keen on this deck, but here's my list:

Pokemon:11
  • 3 Wimpod
  • 2 Golisopod-GX
  • 3 Seismitoad-EX
  • 1 Shaymin-EX
  • 1 Tapu Lele-GX
  • 1 Keldeo-EX
Trainers:40
  • 3 Sycamore
  • 2 N
  • 1 Colress
  • 1 Ghetsis
  • 1 Guzma
  • 1 Acerola
  • 1 Hex Maniac
  • 1 Karen
  • 2 Virbank City Gym
  • 2 Silent Lab
  • 3 Choice Band
  • 2 Float Stone
  • 1 Comp. Search/ Dowsing Machine
  • 4 Ultra Ball
  • 4 VS Seeker
  • 4 Super Scoop Up
  • 4 Hypnotoxic Laser
  • 1 Battle Compressor
  • 1 Rescue Stretcher
  • 1 Field Blower
Energy:9
  • 4 DCE
  • 5 Grass
As much as you hate Super Scoop Up, it's a really good card. It's not very unreliable if you play the full 4, since you'll still mathematically hit 2 per game. And some prize denial is better than no prize denial. It also lets you recycle Energy, as well as get the switch needed for Golisopod. And the deck still keeps the Keldeo and Float Stone. If you are really set on playing a 1-prize attacker, play baby Golisopod. It smacks pretty hard, it's hard to kill, and it gets the job done on every Safeguard Pokemon.

For someone who's new to Expanded, you seem to have a good deck list so far. Keldeo-EX is a great addition to this deck, although I would recommend that you add in Octillery since it is an amazing card to help with draw support. Here are some additional suggestions:

-2 Heavy Ball NXD 88
-1 Tapu Koko PR-SM SM31
-1 Tapu Lele GRI 137 (any more than two is generally a liability)
-1 Choice Band GRI 121
-1 Acerola BUS 112
-1 Professor Sycamore BKP 107
-1 Grass Energy

+1 Hex Maniac AOR 75 (makes Alolan Ninetales a playable matchup)
+1 Pokemon Ranger STS 104 (helps against Seismitoad)
+2 Virbank City Gym PLS 128
+2 Remoraid BKT 32
+2 Octillery BKT 33
