Ruling i trying to figure out this what card is it

ok i went to state one oppent wast playing metegross delta discarding a like 2 or 3 energys to do extra damage then getting them back next turn out of his discard pile with pokemon on his bench can anyone tell me what he used or how he was doing this i look card for card and set for set of the legal mod cards and i can not find any cards that let you do this please help me thanks
 
Yes his deck was called meta-nite which focuses on megagross d, dragonite d, and magcargo smooth over. he probably used magcargo and metagross's combo to get cards and then he used dragonite to search for energy in the discard and then burn it straight off with metagross d to do more damage. he probably had about 2 dragonites out right?, and then he'd burn it off, put it on, burn it off, put it on, etc. Hope it helped.
