Icy's Frozen World

Welcome to my gallery thread! Below are some artworks that I have worked on and I would appreciate any tips/critiques you may have regarding those pieces.

I designed this at school by using Autodesk 3DS Max and a tutorial to help me get started on creating the basic mapping and atmospheric structure.

RE: Icy's Frozen World

I really like the first and second piece. For the first, the way you blended everything in with your shading tools really made the piece stand out, alongside the admirable selection of the blue color. You balanced out everything in this piece fairly well, making every area look intriguing to glance at. And the way you smudged up the white color to create these 'snow gusts' did an exceptional job of creating a winter-like atmosphere.

For the second piece, I really like how you made it appear realistic and something tangible at the same time. With this, it just goes to show how knowledgeable you are in this field.

To top it all off, I really like these pieces and I am looking forward to more!

Thanks for taking the time to comment on those two pieces, Articuno. =)

Hopefully, I should have more to add once I get my hands on 3DS Max again. I'm going to try creating something relating to the ocean, next.

RE: Icy's Frozen World

Your first piece is really nice. It has its atmosphere, and you can feel the cold from this world: it has more shadows than light, the blue dominates the whole terrain, as it says nothing could live on here, not even the nature. The drawing technique also makes this statement stronger, as the lines are also creates a bit windy effect, making it more... "brutal". The mountain also reflects totally well that nothing could live here: even the strongest, massive object is alone in this ground.

The second one is really realistic, however, it doesn't give me the feeling of a planet. The shapes are perfect and also you played well with the dark/light effects (even thought I feel that it's a bit too much from the shadows), the mono-coloring doesn't work for it. I guess you should add another color, even if it's just a secondary color (like brown, black, white, and so on), since now even with the lines and dark/light effects cannot be seen because everything is one-colored. Adding some more darker and/or more lighter parts to the planet would make it more realistic, and more important, it would look like as a real planet. I know I said that at the top, shadows are a bit too much, then I say there should be darker parts there, but there is a difference between that the lighting is darker, or the planet itself has different relief.

It's game time!!

The link below contains one of my most recent game projects that I had to create for my game design class. I developed this game on Gamer Maker Lite (which I don't really prefer), and everything was made from scratch.

Hope you guys enjoy!

RE: Icy's Art Showcase [Game Time]

Created these a while back, but totally forgot to post them. =P

Next update will most likely include another landscape piece.

I'm liking the Nebulous Shooter game. Got past in my third try once I figured out how to play it.

What software did you use to make them? These are fantastic art pieces! :]

The frozen world is very nice, but the frozen planet has very nice depth. Looks very realistic, like you can tell it has a long backstory on why its deserted. Very good.

@Articuno: Thanks! I used Gimp to create those.

@Suitcune: Thank you!

I'll try to change up the colors a bit in the next few pieces. lol

Whoa... Dat planet art.....

*staring.... liking...*

But seriously, thats really well done. I really like how realistic you've made that planet look... And the other shading artwork... Man you really are ICE arceus! You done well man!

Thought about creating another landscape piece, but ended up creating this instead:

Wow that looks ballin' with a capital BALL
That's the only kind of modern art I like. It looks superb IA!

It's been over a year since I last updated.. >.>

I like the design on this one. Very well done.

What software did you use?

I used GIMP.

I mainly use GIMP for my art, unless it has to deal with 3D work.

Holy smokes, nice weaving. Are you cubist? You seem to have warmed to squares a few times.

I've been playing around with them for quite a bit now. This will probably be the last time, since I'm planning on turning towards making another landscape piece (it's been over a year since I last made one. ;o). Let's hope it turns out well. >.>

I have a soft spot for any 3D-based artwork, gonna focus on critiquing this one for now =P

I really like the simplicity of it - this sort of thing is a good way to get into 3D-based artwork, too.
One thing I've noticed is that it looks like there are two light sources - is that intentional? There's light coming in from the top left, and a really soft light towards the lower left-middle area.
It definitely comes across as an cold, desolate planet and I think it's really cool (pardon the pun). If you do more planets in the future, keep in mind that different planet 'materials' will reflect light differently too. The planet reflects a lot of light and looks kinda shiny, which is fine for icy/cold planets but not good for very earthy/rocky planets.
Very good overall, I hope you do more of this stuff ^_^

Hi IA! I really like these abstract pieces, and would like to be able to make some similar in the future. How do you suggest making them and do you have any tips? Thanks in advance!
