Hello everyone, this is a thread where everyone can post quotes/quotations that have had an impact them. Be it quotes from Confucius, JFK, Kurt Cobain, Elmo, or from a song, they go here. Please include an explanation as to why this quote is thought provoking/important to you.
Please keep it to well known people, none from your friend.

"Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met." -Korean War Veterans Memorial
This quote really makes you think about how the soldiers in the Korean War must have felt, and how they wondered for the cause to their warring. It's really a wonderful testament to the people who did go over seas to fight for a cause distant to them.

RE: Favorite Quotations Thread

He's going to fix this so it's not Favorite-y.

"Limits, like fears, are just an illusion" - Michael Jordon

Of course you guys knew I had to post this one! Essentially, I believe that the society we live in today is too fixated on going to high school, going to college, and then working for someone else. I noticed this from a very young age, and thought to myself, who are all the people who own these buildings? Well, as I got older, I started to familiarize myself within the business, and really have broken down a lot of the barriers that may have limited me in the past.

Along the way, I have heard from a lot of people who doubt me, but in the end, I choose my own fate. I do not live in fear that I won't be successful. I don't believe I have any limit on my potential. Business is a system. If you can duplicate the system, you reap the rewards that the people who follow the same system receive. When people tell me my goals are not realistic, I completely shut them out of my head. I've shut a lot of friends out of my life, because I don't need their view-points to hinder me. As you can see, this may limit my dating success (as soon as I find out they have different view-points on business in general than me, I dump them...).

I also have become quite famous within the commercial field, as when you do your first deal when you're thirteen, you get a lot of attention. So consequently, I'm being tutored by people who have excess of 1 billion dollars, got invited to be in a 22 ft. limo with Oprah's boyfriend, meet motown singers on a regular basis, and live a lavish lifestyle.

I truly am Limitless.

If you die you're completely happy and your soul somewhere lives on. I'm not afraid of dying. Total peace after death, becoming someone else is the best hope I've got.

Kurt Cobain has always been my hero and this quote is my favorite. I always read this quote after my dad died and it really helped. It got me threw the day just by saying it.

~Thanks Kurt ;)

"(my name), me and your father have known this for a while but, your brother, (brothers name), has autism. We don't know if he will ever be able to go to college or anything like that. We don't know it his mind will advance at all. But, somehow during all those heart surgeries he got a brain tumor. I'm so sorry."

Yah, my mom told me that last week. That was probably a HUGE influence on my life. For the rest of my life. It sucks...but you know...

Just to start off this thread is awesome! :p
Umm one movie quote I really like is from batman begins "It's not who you are underneath, its what you do that defines you." Really cool quote. And another one is.... well it isnt really a quote just a scene from the dark knight (ya I love batman movies :p) but its really cool imo ><
Joker: You just couldn't let me go, could you... This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets and immovable object. You truly are incorruptible aren't you. Huh. You wont kill me out of some misplaced sense of self righteousness. And I wont kill you because your just too much fun! I think you and I are destined to do this forever.
Batman: You'll be in a padded cell forever.
Joker: Maybe we can share one. You know they'll be doubling up the rate this cities inhabitants are losing their minds.
Batman: This city will show you, that its full of people ready to believe in good.
Joker: Until their spirits breaks completely. Until they get a good look at the real Harvey dent, and all the heroic things he's done. You didn't think id risk losing the battle for Gotham's soul in a fist fight with you. No... You need an ace in the hole. Mines Harvey.
Batman: What did you do...?
Joker: I took Gotham's white knight, and I brought him down to our level. It wasn't hard, see madness as you know... is like gravity... all it takes is a little push!

"never trust a skinny chef, my friend." - guy who works at borders

it's pretty deep if you think about it

Basically every Modest Mouse song has influetial quotes to me. They can be very deep and make you think, or straight to the point and true. But either way I find them to be very relatable.

Ok, people need to explain their quotes more in detail. Otherwise this is just going to be spam and I'll be forced to lock it (again -_-").

how exactly is posting a favorite quotation without explaining it spam? i don't see what's wrong with people generating a list of interesting quotations that they feel have some meaning. there can be merit in threads without necessarily needing discussion value in every single post.

Because then this just boils down to a Favorite Quotations thread (which is what it was before he changed it). Which is spam.

P.S. My last comment wasn't even aimed at you (if you thought it was) It was more to the guy above my post. One comparison to LL's post and that one shows how much people can think about in a post in here. I'm just trying not to short-change discussion into something much worse.

Oops sorry, spamming wasn't my intentions. I'll post some of the quotes and explain why they are influential.

"Bad news comes don't you worry even when it lands.
Good news will work its way to all them plans"
From Float On, a classic. Life has its ups and downs but no matter how low life seems, good news is on its way

"If God controls the land and disease, and keeps a watchful eye on me, if he's really so damn mighty, well my problem is that I can't see, well who'd wanna be? Who'd wanna be such a control freak? Well who would wanna be? Who would wanna be such a control freak?"
From Bukowski. That quote was influential to me because when I was questioning my religion and finding what I truly believe, it helped me think, gave me questions.

"The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul"
From Ocean Breathes Salty. This one, to me, is talking about taking in nature, and seeing how beautiful it is and too take it in. I think it sounds very poetic and, I dunno, just nice =)

I hope this makes up for my "spam" = ]

"Gen Y has been raised in an anti-reality vacuum. Everybody's a winner, everybody gets a trophy, even the preschoolers get a graduation ceremony, everybody's special, there are no such things as wrong answers, don't say no to them -- it hurts their widdle self-esteem. As always, once the kids are no longer small and cute, the truth dawns: You're not special, you can't have everything you want, there are no do-overs, and the weak members of the herd are culled by the lions. When you stumble, there are a billion others, bloodthirstily waiting to take your place. Life's tough."
-Gaby Kaplan, letter to Salon.com

I like this quote mainly because everyone learns this truth in life. Life is not always positive or even mostly positive. I was in New York when the 9/11 attack occurred, I was around 7 at the time, and the incident puzzled me. In school, we learn about kindness and helping others, but that is not what reality is about. Reality is about getting what you want, even if you have to step on others to achieve it. I’m not saying I like reality, but I think children should be aware of this earlier on.

"If it doesn't break your heart it isn't love" - Switchfoot song - Yet

If you think about it its true, it doesn't mean breakinng your heart at the time, but if it could it is.

I found out this was completly true after, something...

I'm not much of a quotations person. I can appreciate them, but they don't guide me towards any sort of better living or anything. There is this one quote that I think is pretty neat.

"We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.” - Bill Watterson.

Like I said, I live by my own principles, but I think this quote pretty much sums up all of my principles. I guess another one of my principles would be "everybody except me sucks", but no famous person has said anything relating to that.

Also, Calvin and Hobbes yeahhhh.

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
Sir Winston Churchill

It reminds me of the value of charity.

I love Calvin and Hobbes! I have many of the books. The comics themselves have pretty good quotes in them too. One that I can remember off the top of my head is "Reality continues to ruin my life" Haha that is so true.
