Discussion Is Giratina EX (AO) Playable?

I recently pulled one from a random AO pack and I was just wondering if it is playable.The art and feel of the card is amazing, so I wouldn't mind buying some more for a deck, but as I haven't been competitive for years I have no idea whether you could put it with a Pokemon and make an effective deck.

GIRATINA EX
Ability (Renegade Pulse): Prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to this Pokemon by your opponent's Mega Evolution Pokemon.
It's attack does 100 damage for G,P,C,C energy and "Your opponent can't play any Tool, Special Energy, or Stadium cards from his or her hand during his or her next turn."

Well, Giratina EX is indeed very popular. (currently tier 2, here's a link) I also run a Giratina EX deck and I believe It's very strong. Here are the most common variations:

  • Seismitoad EX / Giratina EX
  • Vileplume / Giratina EX
  • Bronzong / Tyrantrum EX / Giratina EX
  • Reshiram / Hydreigon EX / Giratina EX

There are many special energy reliant decks around and also decks that need stadiums to work properly. Together with an item lock you can totally demolish your opponent's set-up. Decks that need Mega EX Pokémon usually have to adjust their strategy and still have a hard time doing severe damage.

It's weakness is pretty convenient. You don't see many decks with a Fairy type as main attacker. It almost has no hard counters. But there is Jirachi now, one way to work around this new promo is Hydreigon EX. It can attack Jirachi after it used Stardust. Also It can get Giratina EX out of the active spot with It's ability Dragon Road.

The attack cost is not shabby , but Giratina EX is actually quiet fast. Thanks to Double Dragon Energy, Double Colorless Energy, Reshiram and Bronzong.

Anyway, consider yourself lucky. Giratina EX is a very nice pull :)

Thankyou so much! Might try running it in a deck when I start competitive again next season (if it is still in format). Again, thankyou! ^-^
 
If your interested in seeing it played, I have some expanded league challenges up on my channel. Though losing a bit of steam, the card can basically be paired with quite a few different pokemon. Because the attack locks the opponent out of quite a few playable cards, it is really an amazing card! Right now though the prize exchange war with Zorak is hindering the card because its need to fill up the bench to search for the DDE.
