Is it normal to have a particular love/interest in a race/ethnicity/culture?

I feel that way with Japanese. I find the culture interesting, the language beautiful, I love the entertainment media(anime, manga, music and... the BIG N!). And the girls are beautiful, adorable and exotic! XD
So I'm currently learning Japanese(I haven't gotten very far, but I'm determined and confident and having fun with it) and I want to travel to Japan.
Well, feel free to discuss and share your own interests! Have fun!

You know, I kinda agree w/ this. Japan is also the country I enjoy, but only so I can live there as an adult and work for nintendo, and be Shigeru Miramoto's personal servant lol. Nah, jk. But yeah, the country is very fascinating, and very advanced. And the girls ARE hot.

LOL! Shigeru Miyamoto is amazing! And it's so cool that he's ambidextrous!

lol, children and their dreams. :)

not an insult btw.

No, but it certainly doesn't contribute anything to said topic. Enjoy your warning.

We all blend into unique cultures. I, for one, stray into the more upper end of deep thought:
- I prefer classical/romantic orchestra/instrumental music
- I play Go with one of my friends as relaxation
- I enjoy experimenting with the methods of writing, and likes to critic to gain experience and reflection.

I suppose you could consider me a devoted thinker, be it philosophical or logical. Sadly, not many cultures embrace it as much as I had wished, and that slightly isolates me from my social environment.

So now I know: upper thought consists of Go and classical music. Thanks, Zyflair!

And yeah, it is pretty normal to have a particular interest in one race/ethnicity/culture. That's how we obtain specialists in cultures who are not members of that culture themselves. For myself, I have a small interest in Christian mythos despite being completely nonreligious.

There are also, if you've noticed, a very large amount of people who are very interested in Japan.

I find myself extremely disinterested in people who are extremely interested in the Japanese culture but aren't Japanese themselves.

Filipino culture is actually really cool... I grew up with a Filipino best friend and my current girlfriend is half... they're all just extremely friendly and caring people! And watching Pacquiao fights with them is really fun.

warning enjoyed random mod.

i still dont understand the fascination with japan. is it because of the anime that you guys begin to think of it?

OP, there's absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating a diverse culture. You shouldn't even have to ask.

I have a large special affinity for the white race. We stretch from Portugal all the way to India and down into North Africa. My culture and nation are European. We have good music and inventions and science and art and girls. And we are enjoyed to be pale. I enjoy the Asian race as well. White race and Asian race come together to form Eurasian race. It it very good. :D White Asian race mixing for the win! ;)

My favorite countries and or peoples include BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
-Germany
-Netherland
-Singapore
-Turkey
-Persia
-Finland
-Switzerland
-Syria
-Japan
-Britannia
-Belgium
-Romania
-Croatia
-France
-Malaysia
-Espania
-Russian Federation
-Hungary
-Italia
-Egypt
-Sweden
-Mongolia
-India
-Indonesia
-Denmark
-Iceland
-Korea
-Luxembourg
-China
-Argentina (it is one very European nation)
-Nunavut (is not nation but still counts on list)
-all other nations in the Eurasian ethnic and culture sphere :)

I don't have a particular interest in a race... People are people. Although I do find cultures interesting (especially the Asian culture :/). But I'm more interested in the cultures from the past, like the Greek, Roman, but also the Aztec for example, or I just like history...

My older bro that works a Nintendo met a Japanese girl when he went to Japan to help set their company for them and after a year or 2 they broke up. I really liked her too but then he met a Mexican a bit after that but then he did not agree with the way she did things to support hercommunty which was church so he broke up with her too after they got married. He is on his own planet and is oblivious to his surrounding and does not care about anything except himself now so. Anywayyyy I liked his first girlfriend from Japan. She was Beautiful and very nice but could not speak English well so it was hard for us to understand what she was saying but he translated most things because he is fluent in about 2 or 3 other languages too from going to other countries annd helping them out.:)

I wish to go to Japan, because I love thier culture and such. About love, well, you could say this isn't normal, because I'm in love with not only a fictional character, but a fictional character thats an alien frog. Yup, thats right, Aggie digs frogs. So, I guess all of you frogs out there can try, but my heart lusts for one frog only. (no, Im NOT giving you his name). I am interested in drawing, writing, and saying the funniest things, at the funniest times.
Exaample:
my brother:what do you want to talk about?
me:maybe we should get in a fight.
mt brother:teletubbies are better than sesame street!
me:Oh! Its on! Why is teletubbies so awesome! They dont even have a blue character!
my brother: Yah, they do, you know, Po!
me:Hes purple, genious.
my brother:well, sesame street doesnt have a blue character!
me:WHAT?! How can you forget about grover?! Hes a goofy waiter that turns into a super hero, thats hot.
*akward silence, then lauhter*

Why Singapore? I'm a Singaporean myself, and while this country is an excellent place to live in, it is after all just a city-state of descendants of migrants from China and India and the local Malays. The culture isn't really "Singaporean" but actually different according to the three races.

Liking Japan is just one of those fads right now. It's what's hip and cool among the dorkier social ring. And the majority of thisz website is kids. So that's okay. The truth about Japan--it's mostly okay culturally but has some serious issues, especially with pornography and the way women are treated as a whole in the country. Not OBVIOUSLY poor, but very biased, much more so than say America, where the bias towards women is there, but HUGELY exaggerated.

Japan also has a huge superiority complex, which unfortunately catches on with this generation's hipsters, who believe anyone who dislikes anything Japanese is just a 'baka gaijin'.

Wow, you feel quite strongly about that, don't you? *is very offended*

But the mixture of cultures is probably why tourist would come there. They don't have to go to three countries to have an experience with their culture but one.

That is the reason. I enjoy the several cultures. And city-states are cool. ;) Monaco is also enjoyable.
