Is There a New Japanese Promo that Could Kill BREAKs in Future?

Hi everyone! So for a quick summary I took a break (no pun intended) from TCG right after the release of Ancient Origins. I was at my local hobby shop exploring new cards and greninja BREAK peaked my interest. Another tcg player who has been playing for a while mentioned that break cards will "soon become useless because of a new japanese promo that shuts them off" I believe he said it was a supporter but Ive searched high and low for this mysterious card and came up with nothing. I know theyve added cards like Karen so maybe he got his decks mixed up?

Anyways TL;DR my question is, is there a card that is already out or coming out soon that will be the "death of BREAK Pokemon"? Or was that kid just crazy?

I think that kid was talking about the new Giratina promo. An article about it was posted here just recently. However saying it shuts them off completely is a bit of an exaggeration. While it does hinder BREAKs with abilities like Greninja BREAK and Trev BREAK in expanded, it only shuts down abilities, so depending on the combination the Pokemon may go completely unaffected.

Thank you! So its definitely a card to look out for and pay attention to. That would certainly be a thorn in greninja and trevanents sides, especially in expanded. Glad to know he wasnt crazy and that i was just looking in the wrong places (supporters instead of pokemon)

It is a basic card, so its own ability (to block other abilities) can be shut down by Silent Lab, which wouldn't affect the Greninja line. It does mean you will be forced to counter it though, I imagine a lot of people like me who hate playing Greninja will be using it!
