Discussion Isn't getting better through practicing and playtesting?

Because my friend never seems to want to yet insists on going to these regionals coming up. It's frustrating because he doesn't get it. He has no grasp on the meta, makes no effort to learn about decks other than seeing them in person, etc. Unfortunately, he's the only friend I know that plays so I rely on him to playtest (he's not bad at the game at all, just doesn't want to really improve his game it seems).

It's very frustrating because playing random people online gets old after a while. I want to play in person more. I hesitate on buying cards because I stop and ask is it worth it when I know that I don't get to events that often.

His reasoning for not playing me is that I beat him a lot. Can't wait to see what he does when he plays vs someone better than me.

well... let him get trounced then, some people learn the hard way (or don't learn at all)

isn't there a place nearby where people get together to play? or is your deck like pure proxy or something?

You can't force someone to play. If he wants to go to a Regional then be supportive of that because he's your friend.

Online can be a great place to practice and playtest, although I do think that playing IRL is better in general because playing in front of your actual opponent adds a completely different dynamic to the game.

There are local leagues just about everywhere. Go to the Play Pokémon site and put your location in the Event Finder. I'm sure a local league or two will pop up. That's your best bet for finding more people to play.
