In fact, considering the 3DS itself, this is really old news, a year old to be exact (365 days ages you a lifetime now :p). A number of industry insiders reported back in February '10 that "The Pokémon Company" had been the first developer to be given the 3DS development kits by Nintendo themselves, considering Game Freak makes the most money for Nintendo as a Pokémon developer, it was probably them. At the time this made people wonder if the next generation of Pokémon would in fact be on the system, but as it turned out Black and White were revealed for the current DS in April, as they had been in development since 2007, long before the 3DS may have even been conceptualized (it boggles my mind that the developers knew what we know now maybe even before DP was released! Who knows what they're working on now and how many years it'll be before we see it). So it shouldn't come as a surprise Iwata came out to make the statement, but I'm surprised he's talking about it so early – considering it took five years to develop the original Pokémon engine in RGB, and three years to build on the engine and develop DP, who knows how long it will be before there's a fully developed 3DS Pokémon game out on the market? That being said though, I would hope for a longer wait, as Game Freak really needs to flesh out the new hardware/software capabilities like they've done jumping consoles in the past, which could become quite an extensive process, especially when you have to reteach yourself development all over again to an extent (some have even likened developing on the 3DS to that of a console like the Gamecube, it's almost a completely different animal from the DS). But regardless, good to see some input on Nintendo's side, even if it isn't all out of the ordinary :).

All right then.
