Rowling has recently mentioned a website called Pottermore. Here is the announcement, here is the website. As you can see, the website is nothing put a home page, but the owls on it take you here. Her press agents say it's not going to be a new book, however.

What do you think Rowling will announce? A new book? A new, all-inclusive, potter website? Or something completley different?

Maybe if it's not a new book, it's some sort of expanded universe author-fic about Harry's kids and all that? Or maybe an in-general Potter site? I truely have no clue, but I want to find out already.

No, the potter series is done. Why would she write more, shes the most famous author in the world with a billion dollars.

Probably the official website of an actually college/school called Hogwarts, since you need to look everything up online.

Those are some ugly owls... Its probably a new Potter website or the series in E-Book form. If its a new book it will be interesting to know what its about.

I know in my heart that it won't be a new book. Doesn't mean I can't pray for it though.

dmaster out.

I may be wrong, but aren't the books already in e-book form?

I don't think so. B&N is not listing that format for the books. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/harry-potter-books-harry-potter-7/379002909

In her last lawsuit, it was mentioned about a Harry Potter encyclopedia.

I'd think first that Pottermore is the encyclopedia project Rowling had been planning for quite a while; she sued a fan back in 2007 when she started talking about an encyclopedia (a few months after Deathly Hallows came out, uncanny…), in a case that got pretty ugly, for supposedly trying to publish a fan-made encyclopedia (edit: sorry omahanime, didn't see your mention before I posted…), so perhaps the somewhat extreme action corresponds to the importance being placed on presenting this new Pottermore project (or keeping it a secret for the time being, anyway), in addition to the fair amount of usual copyright stuff, hmm…

Otherwise, I'd say an prologue/epilogue, but only in a short story/scattered anthology format, would be the absolute daring upper-limit based on the feelings Rowling has expressed to the public. Something in similar fashion to The Tales of Beedle and the Bard. I'll stop short before my opinions on a new book though, hehe :)

She announced it!!

what do you think?
"follow the owl"?

Wow. From that YouTube video, this site's gonna be pretty sick. I like all of that animation stuff. I better remember to hop on July 31st and get myself signed up.

I'm pretty sure the animation doesn't have anything to do with the site. It was just to make the video cool.

I'm actually really excited about this -- I can't wait to see what "extra information" Rowling releases about the books -- sounds like it'll be the start of the encyclopedia.

What's interesting, though, is that when Rowling made the original publishing deal, she only gave Bloomsbury the print rights, not digital rights. Essentially, it sounds like she can stand to make nearly 100% profit from e-book sales.

Did anyone else sign up for it?
