One way, is some fake cards are not printed on as heavy cardstock or printed as nicely. Also buy only from good sources.

To answer your second question, you can have 10% of your deck as japanese cards, AKA, 6 cards in your deck can be japanese or foreign, but you must have translations, unless basic energy.(Doi lol)

How can you tell if its fake? Its usually pretty easy. My dad bough me a bunch of cards over seas on a buisness trip and right away I knew they were fake.

How to tell if the card is fake:
-Back of card feels like paper. (instead of plastic)
-Lv X cards are not holo
-Card art is darker then usual (this usually means the card was suppose to be holo)
-Card bends and folds like paper
-odd text font
-Miss spelling. -(this one is just sad)

One of the cards I got was a wormadam trash cloak. Its correct attack says "Iorn Tackle". THe fake one I got said "Iorn Tankle".

Another card I got was the SW Weavile. Normally its attack is "Chip Off". The one I got was "Ice Shard". FAIL.

Its really sad that people would try to sell fake cards. Its even more sad when they cant even spell correctly.

A guide to identify fake cards can be found Here.

And for japanese cards, you must have translation sheet.

the only thing i like about japenese cards is that better holo and better artwork
