Ruling Jirachi special ability + prism/rainbow energy

Did a quick search, didn't see anyone asking this question.

Since rainbow and prism provide one of any type of energy, can I pull them out of my discard using Jirachi's special ability ? I realize the answer is probably no, but I just wanted clarification before I rule this combo out.

Nope.

The cards clearly state that they only provide their special effects when in play. They just provide {C} only otherwise.
