Well, I’ve checked, double-checked, and triple-checked my entry. It still feels like it’s missing something, but I can’t fathom what that might be, so I’m going to go ahead and post it.
This is my first attempt at an M-Pokémon-EX, which I think turned out rather well. The issue with Megas in the CAC, I found, is that creativity is somewhat limited when you only get one attack. Realizing this, I decided to give it an Ancient Trait as well, and naturally, who better to ask about that than Asche. All thanks to him for the blank, the template, and the advice on 3D text and the weird purple things in the art.
I suppose an explanation is in order as well, because I went for flavor over mechanics. The idea behind this is that Metagross is based on a supercomputer, and so its effects are based on a supercomputer as well. Before I get into that, however, I want to establish that this is for the XY-on format.
The Ancient Trait, Ө Upgrade, has fairly obvious flavor. Computers and other devices are constantly improving, with new upgrades, and when they are, they’re always pushed to the front of the market. M-Metagross-EX’s upgrade comes in the form of a fast Energy boost, and then a push to the front of the field.
Meteor Hammer was originally intended to reflect the brute force of Mega Metagross in OU, but then I decided on the supercomputer angle. At that point, however, I had already done the 3D text for it, so I couldn’t change the name (and no, I didn’t want to redo the 3D text). So I cast around for an effect that would mirror both computers and meteors. I eventually decided on a sort of disabling effect, recalling the powerful energy caused by the meteor in ORAS, and harnessed by Devon Co.’s computers. It’s true that it can be powered up fairly quickly through Ө Upgrade and Bronzong, but since you can’t OHKO opposing Megas (except through Weakness), I doubt it's too overpowered. There’s also the issue of not-unlimited switching, since you can’t abuse Keldeo-EX.
The existing M-Metagross-EX has 220 HP, which doesn’t seem right to me. I would have liked to have given it 240 like M-Aggron and M-Tyranitar, but there’s also the Believability points to consider. I opted for 230 HP in the end.
The Weakness, Resistance, and Retreat Cost are the same as the existing M-Metagross.
