Hello all Pokebeachers. Today, I felt like starting a Kingdom Hearts fanfic. Now, before I start, I would just like to say something. If you do not want to get spoiled on the game, don't read this, as there are many spoilers. Also, since I don't know what that little sly man (Tetsuya Namura) has planned for KH: 3D, I won't bother trying to guess, and just skip that.
Prologue - A Broken Heart
Somewhere in a large deserted, and rocky field, a man walks through a path. Along this path, lie thousands of Keyblades, each piercing the earth as if it were nothing but a pin cushion. He dons a large, brown robe, and his face is concealed behind a hood. As he walks along the beaten path, he touches each Keyblade. As he does so, he utters a name. Each Keyblade bears a name, just as each name wields a Keyblade.
The path converges with many others into the center, where a small hole is found. In his mind, an image of a large and powerful Keyblade rests in this spot, as a large ensuing battle rages around him. Heartbroken, he looks down, and away from this hole. Although it was empty, it filled him with rage and regret.
"It's sad to think it's gone. Isn't it?" says a voice. Startled, the man turns around, and quickly draws his Keyblade, Oblivion.
In front of him, is a man dressed in a dark black robe with a silver line running through it. His face is also concealed in a black hood, and he has a slight hunchback.
"Ah. So, you wield a Keyblade. Judging by the cloak you wear, I figure you must be a survivor." said the black-cloaked figure.
The man in brown is taken aback. "How- How do you know about me being a survivor? Just who are you, exactly?"
The man in black takes off his hood, and replies, "Wouldn't you like to see the X-Blade?"
Chapter 1 - Curiosity
On a beach in Destiny Islands, Riku (KH1 Attire) sits quietly, looking over the horizon at the setting sun. Words rush around his mind.
"If there are other worlds out there, then why did we end up on this one?"
To himself, he mutters, "I'll find what's out there." He stares up at the setting sun, and remembers of Sora, Kairi. Oh how he wished to visit her world.
The man in the brown cloak appears behind Riku, and says, "This world, has been connected."
Startled, Riku gets up, and draws his toy sword. Astonished, he mutters, "Who are you, creeping up on me?"
The man laughs. "What harm do you expect to do with that?" He pulls out his Keyblade, Oblivion.
Riku steps back. "Woah, what's that?" The man rests the Keyblade at his side, and points at Riku.
"You crave exploration. Your curiosity to visit the outside worlds impresses me. Yet, at the same time, you must also know that what you see beyond this world may frighten and astonish you. Will you still go?"
Riku merely snickers. "Spare me your warnings. I'm sick of living on these small islands. I want to see what's out there. I want to understand!"
The figure replies, "Fool. One who knows nothing, understands nothing." He waves his arm, and suddenly, a large dark ball appears above the island.
Riku falls over. "Wha- What did you do?"
The figure responds. "I have merely opened the portal between this world, and unknown. This is not what you wanted? Your curiosity prompted this outbreak. This world, will be ravaged by darkness. The darkness will not stop, until it has corroded every living thing on this planet. It will not hurt you, however. Once the time is ready, I will take you far from this world."
Suddenly, hundreds of Heartless come forth from the large orb. Riku stares up at it, and says, "If this is what I have to do... then I will."
The figure merely stares. "Make your way to the paopu fruit tree."
Riku, still astonished at this visitor's appearance, runs up, on his way to the bridge.
The figure walks to the beachfront, and stands for a short moment. The lapping of the waves momentarily soothes him. Without thinking, he places his hand in the water. He sighs when his hand makes contact. He straightens up, and walks further into the water. Once he's ankle deep, he reaches his hand in again, when his hand touches something solid.
"Hello, what's this?" he says to himself. He picks it up, and it is a small shell, with a light blue tone.
He laughs, and holds up the shell to the dark ball in the sky. He murmurs, "For you, Anita."
Chapter 2 - A Free Man
In the ruins of The World That Never Was, the figure in the brown robe sits pensieve upon the rubble of the fallen castle.
"Hmm... since they're both gone... I guess that makes me a free man." says the figure.
He gets up to leave, and looks behind him one last time. "But now that I'm free... what do I do?"
His thought is cancelled when a voice suddenly scares him, "You're not free just yet."
The figure turns around, and sees a black-robed man. The figure was taken aback.
"Huh? Who are you? Why do you seem so familiar. You aren't... Xehanort?" says the figure.
The Black-robed Man laughed. "No. At least, not the Xehanort you know. Not the one you met in the Keyblade Graveyard many years ago."
The Black-robed Man uncovered his hood again. Only to reveal a mixed-up face with white hair. "Please," he says, "Call me, Terranort."
The figure stands confused, "But, I don't understand, I witnessed Sora take down your Heartless, and your Nobody. Why have you returned?"
Terranort replies, "It's simple really. My heart roamed free, and my body was liberated. It was only natural that they be joined together in harmony again."
The figure turns away, "Let me guess, you want to play puppet master again?"
Terranort laughs, "Precisely. Now, do you not want to see the X-Blade again?"
The figure quickly pivots around, and in anger, shouts, "Like you did last time with Vanitas? How well did that work out again? How do I know that you'll deliver?"
Terranort replies bluntly, "You don't. But I will."
The figure merely sighs, and inches closer to Terranort.
Terranort then holds out his hand. "Tell me, Torsla. Do you know why Sora resembles Vanitas?"
Chapter 3 - Mark of Mastery
In the room of Yen Sid, two young boys stand, firm and tall. The first, is Sora (KH2 Attire). The second, a year older, is Riku (KH2 Attire). The two stand side by side, and to their left, are Donald Duck, Goofy, and King Mickey.
Behind the desk, resides Master Yen Sid.
"Sora. Riku. You have been gathered here today for reasons you are both well aware of. You must each show, the Mark of Mastery. I trust you are both well aware of your adventure ahead."
Sora and Riku both take a step backwards. "Journey?" asks Riku, "I thought that this would be just a Test?"
Yen Sid nods, "Yes. Normally, the proceedings of the Exam take place very quickly. But, the state of the universe is in much peril. I fear, Master Xehanort is making a return."
Sora, merely asks, "Master Xehanort? Who's that guy?" Riku, however, appears to have a worried look on his face.
Yen Sid answers, "Master Xehanort, Sora. May be seen as the root of all of your problems."
"Alright. That's enough evidence for me." says Sora angrily.
Yen Sid smiles, then returns to his seriousness. "Because we don't have the time to wait for his next move, we have advised that you two journey out into the worlds, looking for his possible whereabouts, while still proving your worth of the Mark of Mastery. But don't worry, Donald, Goofy, and Mickey will be by your sides, in spirit."
"Yeah, Sora, Riku. We'll help you fight off the darkness." says a friendly Goofy.
Sora smiles at his companions, "Thanks guys."
Yen Sid then says, "Keep in mind that they will not be journeying with you. The Mark of Mastery is a solo effort. Meaning you both will be parting soon."
Sora and Riku both wear sad faces. "Well," says Riku, "I knew it wouldn't be helped. Thank you, Master Yen Sid. I'm ready to leave as soon as possible."
Yen Sid politely bows his head, and then says, "You are both free to go whenever you're ready. Be cautious of the Darkness. Don't be tempted by it."
Sora and Riku both politely nod, and they depart.
"Sora." says Yen Sid before he could manage to leave, "I want to ask something of you, before you depart."
Sora turns around, and says, "Sure. What is it?"
Yen Sid begins, "I know that you are well aware of Riku's weakness to the Darkness. This mission I've assigned to you both is very dagnerous, and I am currently unaware of what Master Xehanort's plans are. Now, with that being said, if Riku were to fall again into the Darkness. I want you to bring him back here, at once. And, if it appears that there is no other option. I want you, to stop him, at whatever the cost may be."
Yen Sids words puncture Sora. With a worried look, Sora says, "Um, alright. But I trust Riku. I know that he won't slip again. He's on our side, faithfully. He's not as weak as you think."
Yen Sid sighs in agreement. "I know Sora, but even so, emotions run deeper than anything else. Go Sora, I feel you are well prepared?"
Sora straightens up. "Of course."
"Go then, Sora. Show us the Mark of Mastery." says Yen Sid.
"Alright." Sora turns towards his friends, "Well, I'll be back!" He then turns around, and sprints towards the bottom.
King Mickey walks towards Yen Sid, and says, "Yen Sid... do you have any idea what may be going on?"
Yen Sid sits, and says, "Yes. And, Mickey, it scares me."
