Use this thread for all discussion of the Klinklang deck. This includes strategies, playstyles, and techs. This is only for discussion about decks revolving around the Klinklang from BW base set. Decks revolving around the Klinklang from Plasma Storm should go in the PlasmaKlang thread.

You may post decklists here, but only as a means of adding to the discussion. Don't post decklists here for advice.

All discussion not related to Klinklang will be moved or deleted. All shallow or uninformed discussion will also be deleted by the mods.

RE: Klinklang

This deck has tried to keep up, but with the loss of Rainbow Energy... it's much more difficult. It has seen a mini revival late in the City Championship competitions, however, it does not seem to have what it takes to keep up with the big dogs.

A more important question for this deck is going to be its future when the new Klinklang comes out.

Right. I believe Klinklang to be too slow for the current format- there is just so very much that can go wrong with your setup. That said, if everything goes right, woe be to your opponent.

The new Klinklang I don't see doing much for the current build but may give rise to sort of a Mono-Steel deck. You could Cobalion for extra annoyance, Registeel for the spread, and Cobalion EX as a main. And the deck's no longer slow- you could use Ether-Pokedex to put down enough energy, and Cobalion does T1 30 with possible energy disruption.

RE: Klinklang

I believe that the new Klinklang and the old Klinklang will mix very little. They'll be two seaerate decks, but decks with the new one may tech in a single BW one. Decks based around the BW one won't tech in any of the new ones. The reason for this is that they are support for completely different Pokemon. The point of Klinklang BW is to allow Pokemon of many different types to attack and be healed via Max Potion, allowing it to use the most powerful Pokemon in the format regardless of their type and to hit enemies for weakness. The new Klinklang can only affect Steel types, and there are not very many good Steel types in the format so for the most part they are not worth running in Klinklang BW decks. You've got Cobalion NV, but with Keldeo and Darkrai around his second attack, his main selling point, really just does 80 damage for 3 energy, which isn't particularly good. His first attack can technically let him do lots of damage to an enemy Keldeo, but he's never going to be OHKOing it unless they have 8 energy (7 I can see to OHKO EXes, 8 yeah no) unlike Mewtwo. Registeel used to be good for his first attack, but now Landorus is out and Landorus's first attack is really superior. Registeel EX's second attack is really lackluster, but he'll probably be run in some NeoKlang decks anyway simply because there are no other good steels. Finally, Cobalion EX is coming out, and he seems to be the best Steel type attacker in the game; 100 for 3 ignoring all effects guarantees him a 2HKO on every card in the format, even Eviolited Regigigas EX with Aspertia City Gym out. His first attack is also pretty decent, 30 for 1 isn't spectacular but discarding a special energy can really hurt some decks (most notably BW Klinklang ones, ironically enough).

tl;dr the new and old Klinklangs have no synergy with each other or with the same Pokemon and will be completely separate decks. Time will tell which is more viable, if they're even comparable.

RE: Klinklang

I thought we would be discussing the BW Klinklang. It saw less play since the rotation with Rainbow being rotated. It is suppose to hit hard with the attackers of the format (basic of course).

If we cannot talk about the future Klinklang I or a mod may delete this part of my post. You may use BW Klinklang in the PS Klinklang deck to abuse Max Potion or to setup another attacker after switching. Switch will be a must in every deck of this. A 4-of IMO. Registeel could be use for tanking with Eviolite and Protect Charge if you run the BW Klinklang after moving the energy. It will be a big tank which not much for it to be hit. Only a few Pokemon will be able to 2HKO it and none (none at all except some Pokemon with added effect like Darmaxitan) will be able to OHKO it. Only exception is Reshiram. I've seen some builds including Lucario PS to OHKO Darkrai after your opponent has taken a prize. Cobalion EX will be the main attacker for the deck (except in the Registeel tank).

RE: Klinklang

I won't delete what you guys said because it was productive discussion, but from now on it should be about the current deck and not future ones.

RE: Klinklang

I think that this deck can actually be quite good in the current format with Darkrai EX, Keldeo EX, and Black Kyurem EX. Don't run Crystal Wall though.

RE: Klinklang

Should their be a separate thread for Plasma Klinklang? This thread's very dead anyways.

RE: Klinklang

I'll be making new threads for the new decks soon, although it's difficult to determine because states aren't for a while. I'll definitely make threads for stuff like Plasma Klinklang though.
