Discussion KOing that Robo Sub

I personally don't like KOin Robo Subs because of the fear of giving a free Teammates to my opponent (especially when its in the discard). Unfortunately this comes back to haunt me occasionally, perhaps due to a switch that allows the Robo to stay there.

So, what do you think? Should you always attempt to KO a Robo Sub that has been placed Active? Or should you wait it out and hope your opponent discards it?

It's all situational.

At times, I may be waiting to go for a Lysandre for the KO. At which point, I could probably leave the sub up. However, if I'm trying to take down a Primal Groudon, I'm KO'ing that Sub like no tomorrow.

PGroudon never runs Teammates and can rarely, if ever win off two cards.

Agreed- against P.Groudon I will always knock out the Sub. Since Groudon is such a stally sort of deck, waiting it out only really benefits the other player imo.

I haven't really played any other decks with Robo Sub in. I'm guessing Gengar and Donphan are the others that make use of it, so against them I'd always go for the Lysandre.

There are hints a Teammates might be used if you KO the Robo-Sub. One is if your opponent can attack and survive, but instead keeps Robo-Sub active or retreats/switches into it. Another is when a Teammates is the only supporter in your opponents discard pile, they could be sitting on some VS. Seekers. The latter isn't so bad because it usually means they don't have a supporter, so one of the cards they grab will most likely be a draw support for the next turn. Lysandre can really slow down your opponent is both situations.

The decks that run the Robo-Sub/Teammates combo can usually hide it well but it's worthwhile thinking about the benefits (to both players) of not KOing the active Robo-Sub. Also, while it sounds obvious, remember if they use Teammates that means they are not using N or Lysandre.

Wait... so if we are not KOing the Robo Sub, are we also not KOing anything else?

Sorry if this is me being thick: I actually realize there are times when it might be more prudent to wound something than to take a KO but those times seem to be few and far between in terms of the overall metagame. Plenty of decks have healing effects or switching effects that means a spared Robo Sub can be worse for you. Ideally of course you take out a Robo Sub the same turn you take out something else: not an option for most decks but I one of the few I really enjoy (and... um... don't do terrible with) is Landobats, so I'm used to taking them out via the spread.
