Ruling Kricketune

I think Kricketune is one of those decks like Lunatone/Solrock or Team Rocket's Trap variants that has little mid-to-late game power or consistency. It has to be quick and disruptive from turn 1 and it can't relinquish that control at all. It also has to win within a certain time frame or else the opponent will get set up and overwhelm the Kricketune player, getting KOs that threaten to bench them, diminish Kricketune's attack, etc.. You're also probably going to mulligan a lot if you play Kricketune, which gives your opponent more of a chance to collect a hand full of Pokemon and set up cards, which means your chances of running roughshod over them with no opposition decreases. These are weaknesses.

I think the right decklist and the right player could help ensure that Kricketune gets past them, however. To answer the question posed in this post, I don't think Kricketune is all hype. Maybe it is OVER hyped a bit, like every seemingly good card always is from the time spoilers get passed out until it actually sees tournament action, but it isn't something you should just count out.

It's pretty good. It uses both the Basic and the evolution, thus making it doubly effective with Mentor/Fan club.

And Pokeric, Draekfist: It's getting as hyped as Hailstorm and Gyartu.

LH: Except that Kricitune wasn't just thought up by 1 person. There are a bunch of people making Kricet decks, modifing them to what work. And Kricet is a T2 Beast. It almost match's Infernape's power, but not needing a rare candy. Unfortunatley, when a Bug gets popular, everyone brings out the fire, which is horrible for Kricet, as Infernape almost matchs its speed. Plus, most people play a 4-4 line, and that's it for their Pokemon. If you play an Inferncatty deck, you'll muligun enough to give then DRE, RC, Chimchar and Infern. And then that's pretty much game. That's why I like Carnivine, another Grass T2 Beast, as a tech. But that's just me. The kricet wil dominat at BR's, but even by cities, Infer anything will be the only arctype left.

yes MOTSK predictions are correct although I do think people will find another card to make this work beter and maybe counter decks like inferncatty
