So with the upcoming pre-release I'm sure some of you are thinking of possible decks to build.

I'm excited because it's been such a long time since we've had a bit of a tournament unless you attended Worlds or Regionals.

So anyways what the point of this thread is to maybe discuss possible deck ideas that would work, or what cards to look out for. And finally once the event begins, what decks / cards were key to victory.

Right off the bat I think the Dragon trio are going to be deadly with their Outrage attacks. feels like if you can't knock those Pokemon out fast you may be in trouble. Luckily there are a few good counters for Zekrom but that Kyurem might run rampant seeing as the only steel type is Cobalion.

Mewtwo EX is obviously going to be a force and probably Chandelure EX as well with it's first attack requiring a single psychic. "Put 4 damage counters on your opponent's Pokémon in any way you like. "

Yeah im also curious what i should really be trying on the pre release. But im just going to go with my gut and try something whacky. But an ex would definitely help.

EX's will help but don't forget about Sigilyph cause that'll be a disaster. :p I'm curious as to how useful Mew EX may be. I remember during Dragons Exalted it was a hit and miss cause sometimes the only attack Mew would be able to do was feebas' Add-a-Dash if that's what it was called. But now that we have a higher chance of meeting the outrage dragons, maybe Mew will be more useful? Pulling it might be an entirely different story.

It's pretty much impossible not to get some kind of good starting Pokemon in this set. There's Virizion, Thundurus, Plusle, Emolga, Spiritomb, Stunfisk, Rayquaza, Victini EX, Chandelure EX, and there's even stuff like the Outrage Dragons, Mewtwo, Excadrill EX that only need 2. Some other good splashable Pokemon are Ninetales, Cinccino, Phione and Toxicroak. Also, don't use Garbodor or Lugia EX. They're totally useless in this set, lol.

I think Excadrill would be really good in this set. If you run like 25 Energy, he'll be able to power up all your attackers super easy.
 
If the Radiant Colletion cards are tough to pull then whoever manages to get a Ralts might have a neat darkhorse since it can put opponents to sleep. That's sometimes quite the game changer. Definitely exciting, with all the different possibilities. Just 10 more hours to go..
 
Just finished Pre-Release. Got 3rd place using Reshiram, Zekrom EX, Mincinno, Plusle, Landorus, Terrakion, Mismagius and Gardevoir. In retrospect, it may have been wiser to replace some of the extra Pokemon with extra Energy instead... I went 4 rounds, 2 wins, 2 draws.
 
Nice! I went 2-1. I didn't pull any EX's or any of the Outrage trio so I was definitely in a bad spot. But I had Ralts and Gothita which helped me big time with their sleep attacks and then Terrakion to retaliate when one of them got knocked out. I lost my final match to the dude who got first place. He was running Excadrill ex Darkrai EX and Sigilyph. He couldn't wake up his Darkrai after 8 flips but eventually called the judge to switch dice and flipped heads. :(

Reshiram outrage decks were definitely popular at the event but they didn't seem to do as well. But if I learned anything it's that next week I'm going to stick with these sleep inducing Pokemon.
 
My run was pretty decent. I went with Psychic / Normal / Water. I ended up with 1 Emolga, 1 of the other call for family thing, as well as 1-1 Toxicroak, and 3 outragers . I also ended up with 1 bianca and 2 Cedric Junipers. Toxicroak was enough to win me 2 matches on its own since everyone had mew and Meloetta for an easy 2 prizes. I went 2-2 for 6th place I think.
 
I went an easy 3-0 (we played 2 out of 3 40 minutes) with Minccino / Emolga (call 4 family cards), Revenge Bouffalant, Druddigon, Mew EX, Black Kyurem EX, Muddy Water Stunfisk, 2 Virizion, Moltres, 2 Plusle to draw 4 new cards, 1 Bianca, 2 Energy Switch, and then a wide spread of the 25 energy (including my 1 DCE drew). BTW - if your tournament assigned you a position it was just random to put something in for your points - nobody 'wins' a pre-release. For example, if you say that you finished 3rd/4th with a 2-2 record, that would mean maybe 6 people played ! My tournament director always puts everyone down as 3rd regardless of record. Was fun - I ended the day with 7 EX & my sons got 5 and 6 respectively (including the Tornadus EX), plus some cool FA's, etc.
