Pokemon Lickitung a chameleon?

I know it has a long toungue like a chameleon but it stands upright and has a huge body. Is this supposed to resemble just a chameleon, or just one trait of a chameleon? Because I am having a hard time believing it is a chameleon because it can't even learn camoflauge...

Charmeleon isn't a chameleon <.< To stay on topic nintendo would never make a whole new species of pokemon that resembles the same pokemon. It's most likely just a trait.
