Hello,

I'm 25 years old and I've always want to play Pokemon tcg. I lived in a little town in france, and there where like 0 players.

Today I'm studying in game design in Montreal Canada and I found a place (store) where I can play (yey :) ).

I bought a starting deck resilient life and Lucario Elite box (didn't get any EX :( ).

I want to ask to the comunity how can I start with a potable deck to fight other players. Is there a list of decks for inspiration? Can someone tell me a deck to construct?

Thanks a lot,

Tony Varo.

Moved from the Deck Garage to here, as this place is made specifically for your questions! :D ~Kecleon

RE: New at Pokemon TCG

There a lot of decks that you can make. Do you want a "Competitive" deck (they can be found here). Do you want to make a deck on a budget? Or do you want help making a deck with the cards you have?

Before buying more cards, I would suggest playing with your starter deck a little to get a feel for the game and understand the mechanics. It's likely you won't win much, but you will get an understand of the flow of the game. Once you're comfortable with that, then you can do some research into the metagame, and learn which decks competitively players are using. I wouldn't reccomend building a rogue deck when first starting out, but do remember that it's always an option.

However, a lot of new players do end up going rogue because the most populer cards in the metagame do get expensive, and players can spell hundreds of dollars building a deck. If you have the money to spend, Fighting variants and Seismitoad are both popular and relatively simple as far as strategy goes. If you're looking to build on a budget, I'd suggest checking out Eeveelution decks, as the cards needed are much less expensive, but be aware that it requires more skill and planning. Rather then playing with the big, popular EXs, this deck seeks to counter them by evolving Eevee into whatever your opponent is weak to.

Some of the lesser known / not as popular decks you can buy the singles for for fairly cheap. I bought all the Donphans I will ever need for ~$3 the other day. Greninja / Miltank should be pretty inexpensive. I think I would start out by buying a playset of some of the staples. Juniper, N, Skyla, Ultra Ball just to name a few. Some of the one-ofs like Professor's Letters, Lysandre, and the good Ace Specs are other things to look out for. Cards that go in just about any deck would be a wise investment.
