I've been playing PTCGO since the summer and recently decided to get into playing the real thing. I found a league that isn't too far from me and am going to start attending within the next few weeks. At the minute I'm just going to be playing for fun but if things work out well I might start trying to play competitively.
Here is a deck I have been playing on PCTGO. I was thinking of buying the cards to put it together but was looking some feedback/criticism first before I proceed. I have the majority of the cards, all I need to buy are the 3 x Lucario Ex, 1 Shaymin and 4 Strong Energies (I had the joy of pulling a Shaymin from a Roaring Skies Blister today!)
Pokemon: 14
The overall strategy is to get a fully powered Lucario out into play with a muscle band and at least one strong energy on it to hit 140. This should OHKO everything that isn't an EX and doesn't have resistance. For Ex pokemon I would hope to have a fighting stadium out and at least one Machamp on the Bench after 2/3 turns which means that I am hitting for 180 which will OHKO most Ex pokemon that don't have resistance. Best case scenario, Lucario Ex with 3 strong energy, muscle band, fighting stadium and 2 Machamp on the bench will hit for 240 with no resistance and this should OHKO just about everything that is playable. It is quite unlikely that I will get it out and supercharged like this but I have pulled it off a few times online.
With regard to supporting Pokemon. The Hawlucha are there to wear down Pokemon Ex and since they have no retreat cost it is basically no risk to start with one. A Hawlucha with a strong energy and muscle band can hit an Ex for 100 straight off the bat, not too shabby.
I like using Landorus along with scorched earth to help me dig through my deck and power up Lucario at the same time. He can also function as a secondary attacker I run out of Lucarios (eg 2 knocked out and 1 prized).
The Machop/Machamp line is obviously there to power up my attackers, though Machamp itself will fuction as an attacker in an emergency, though it needs at least 3 turns to power up (assuming I haven't already put energy on the Machop). Machamp Crush isn't a bad attack and can do a lot more damage with muscle band/fighting stadium/strong energy etc. The 40 damage reduction next turn isn't too bad either and the 150 health means it should last at least 2 turns.
Shaymin: speak for themselves
As I said before, I have had good success with this deck online but I am also well aware that playing online and playing for real are two vastly different experiences. How can I improve it? I have a feeling I might be using two much disruption (red card and the hammers). I started off playing disruption decks (Toad/Team Flare Grunt/Head ringer/Hammers etc) and I find myself unable to bring myself entirely away from the concept. Is it worth getting rid of these types of cards in favour of others? Also, am I playing too few supporters? I have a feeling that 7 might not be enough. I have never had any real problems playing through the deck. As well as the supporters I have the 2 Shaymin, Lucario's Corkscrew Smash attack and scorched earth. But, if people think I should be playing more supporters I am willing to listen!
