I think that lugia legend should see more use than it is seeing after next destenies, because it's attack will be able to knock out any Ex card that doesn't have a eviolite or defender attached to it. Even though it will need 3 types of energy to attack, 4 energy exchangers should help that. And with at least 3 junk arm, you will be able to get a lot of the right energy. And if you put research record in, you could maximize the amount of energy on lugia when you put it on the bench.

It could OHKO any EX even if it did have Eviolite. However, Magnezone is much more efficient at doing this. It's also more reliable and consistent. I'd be surprised if Lugia saw more play.

Edit- Whoops lol.

it might see a small boost

it might even have some success (i.e BR's and cities) but on the bigger scale magnezone is far far better it's just easier to get out and will attack for just electric for the same amount of damage....

Lugia LEGEND was better last format when you could discard the top and bottom halves of Lugia LEGEND and Energies with Junk Arm and Sage's Training, then play Dialga with the Reverse Time Poke-Power from Platinum Base Set to stack what you discarded on top of your deck and use Legend Box to play out your Lugia LEGEND with energies attached.

Of course Pokemon Communication makes the combo more consistent cause If you have one Lugia half to discard and the other isn't in your hand you can replace the Pokemon you have in hand with the other Lugia half and proceed the combo from there. It's a fun combo but I don't think Lugia LEGEND is as good in HGSS-On as it was in MD-On and even If it was good last format Luxray GL Lv. X would've already stopped it anyway.

Oh, how I want to play Lugia LEGEND...

Unfortunately, it isn't quite viable enough to play, as much as I'd like to...maybe with Electrode Prime and Rainbow/Prism Energies? I suppose with a full set of Energy Retrievals, maybe some Kyurem to take the small prizes? Indigo Plateau gives it some bulk; does Eviolite work with it? I'm not sure on wether Pokemon LEGEND count as basics or not, but if so, count tank decently. I suppose, if CaKE can get away with using up to 4 Different Energy types, Lugia.dec could as well...

Welp, I know what I'm playing next format.

EDIT: apparently, I'm the only one who thinks people will use Lugia LEGEND ever.

I'll show them, I'll show them all!!!!

RDL+Black Belt=3 prizes on an EX. Pretty devastating imo. RDL should see some use next format.

Please try to stay on topic with your posts. This thread has nothing to do with RDL.

I've been theorymoning a Lugia LEGEND/RDL deck based around Electrode, with Indigo Plateau and Bronzong to search out the LEGENDs. Electrode and a maxxed out Research Record can help not only with Ocean Grow but also Electrode's ability. Add Shaymin to conserve energy and maaaybe Leavanny NV to get rid of those dangerous weaknesses, and the deck could possibly play winners' tables. Will it topcut? Probably not, but I do want to make a list and try it out at League. If/when I make one I'll post it and see if anyone can give feedback

EDIT:
Threw this list together in like 10 minutes. Feel free to poke holes in it and see what you would fix/change. Collector isn't very necessary, and great ball is useful for getting out the LEGEND halves, as well as anything else you may need. Seeker to reload a Lugia Legend via Ocean Grow, Fisherman over ER because of the low supporter count in this deck, aaand everything else is pretty standard.
What do you guys think?

I highly doubt Lugia Legend will see much play post ND. I mean, hitting for 200 is nice, but you need to use 3 different energies. Not only that, but it has a bad weakness, a weakness which Magnezone takes care of it. Not only that, but Magnezone is in the end a better choice. He is much easier to set up compared to and can easily take care of EX Pokemon thanks to his very useful support Pokemon like Eelektrik compared to Lugia Legend

Could be played in the same way that LBS was, just thinking

No that wouldn't work in this slower format. The way to go with this deck is Electrode, 4 Rainbow and ~4 of each energy type it needs.

Are prism energies going to be released in next destinies? If it will then Lugia will be even better because it can knock out EXs easily.

Legends aren't basics, so prism energy won't work.

Umm I don't think so. I'll probably play it as well!! I think I'm gonna use Tornados in it because of the early pressure and energy transferring.

My friend runs an extremely consitant lugia deck already which currently only has issues with Zekrom and Magnezone based decks, and by issues I mean it has a chance of losing, when both teams can ohko each other things get messy. His has a turn 2 set-up and has the ability to easily recover.

Pardon me for reviving this thread, but I believe I have some useful info pertaining to this topic.

The key to using Lugia LEGEND is to use it as a teched nuke, not build a deck around it. I've been testing around with it in a basic Zekrom/Eel style deck, having 6 electric energies, 4 Rainbow, 3 fire, and 3 water. A lot of energy, I know, but it helps that Ocean Glow power Lugia LEGEND has getthat extra key energy or 2 more reliably. Needless to say, I've been very surprised with how well it does. The main strategy with Zekrom and Electrik is largely uninterrupted despite the lower electric energy count, and for some reason, I can almost always call out Lugia LEGEND whenever I want (I run 2-2 of it). And I really honestly wasn't expecting it to do this well to begin with. It was just a random fun idea to annoy any potential EX users at league.

It DOES have problems with Donphan Dragons, though. However, two solutions to this problem exist in the Next Destinies set (and I have tested AND confirmed this): Zapdos and Articuno. Zapdos is an odd electric type since it doesn't share the fighting weakness that its other electric type bretheren all share, instead having it as a RESISTANCE. The ability to snipe for 50 while laughing at the efforts of Donphan Prime and other fighting types makes it very useful as both a fighting type wall and a general purpose sniper. However, it can't do much to Donphan back. Articuno is for those that want to take a head-on approach to the Donphan/Landros problem. As a big bonus, it has a STEEL weakness, NOT THE ELECTRIC WEAKNESS that other fighting-type resistant pokemon are known for having, further helping against Donphan Dragons, which have Zekrom to punish those pokemon for coming out. I personally run 1 Zekrom, Zapdos, and Articuno each. They are all easy to power up thanks to Electrik's energy acceleration, and Lugia LEGEND is almost always waiting to obliterate any bulky pokemon that thinks they're safe for the next turn.

I also run a 2-2 line of Zebstrika ND for early trainer lock and/or 80 damage snipes, which I have found to be EMMENSELY helpful. There's so many ways to exploit this, whether it's to lock a Magnezone/Eel's RCs, or to drag out a Terrakion via Catcher and lock them so they can't Swith out. It also helps you protect your Eels early on from being Catchered out while you energy accelerate away. The list can go on. Of course, that's just my personal preference.

Through my testing thus far of this deck, it has consistently won its matches against other Eel variants, Mewlock/box, and, with the bird techs I mentioned above, even Donphan Dragons. I still have to test against the better decks out there like 6+ Corners and CAKE, but the basic point of my wall of text here is that I can confirm that Lugia LEGEND is, much to my surprise, a viable play not just against EX pokemon, but other bulky pokemon as well. For those who want to try Lugia LEGEND, I'd reccomend teching it into Zekrom/Eel first, test, make necessary adjustments, test again, adjust, rinse and repeat until you are comfortable with the deck. If it doesn't work for you, there's always the other million deck ideas swimming in your head after ND came out. :)
