luxray's gadget pulse does 60 damage but if luxray has a tool attached to it you discard the tool and the base damage becomes 100. expert belt adds +20 hp and +20 damage to attacks but isn't it true that since luxray discards the tool as part of the attack, that it does not get the +20 damage. will gadget pulse do 100 damage still instead of 120?

It would do just 100.

To me, I understand it like this;

You MAY discard a tool attached to Luxray. IF you do, this attack does 100....

It only does 100 once you paid the cost or discared the tool. Once the tool is gone, it does 100, but since the tool is gone there is no plus 20.

All effects of attacks other than damage are applied after the damage. Therefore, I'm pretty sure Luxray's attack would do 120.

Nope, it does only 100. For example, you're doing 60 plsu 20 with Expert Belt = 80. Then you may discard Expert Belt to increase the damage to 100.

ok guys heres how it works. Resolving damage.
1 figure base damage apply effects to it ( discarding etc)
2 apply afftects of in this order Powers Bodys Tools
3 Apply weakness resistance ( in that order)
(place dmg coutners for dmg done)(Statebased effect lol)
4 Perform Secondary effects of attack ( remove damage from attack equal to damage done... eg)

so to answer the question it will do 100 damage as the tool isn't there to give the +20 when its time comes around..
there is one way it could work but the wording would be more like " if this pokemon has a tool attached to it this attacks base damage is 100, discard any tools attacked to (Pokémon) at end of turn" basicly removing our ability to choose

Ouch. I thought that was the obvious combo to get 120. Its like it got nerfed even before it came out -_-

normally when a Pokémon darkness discard one darkness special Energy it is still +10, so why is it different ??

From the Arceus FAQs

"Q: If I use Luxray’s “Gadget Bolt” attack to discard an “Expert Belt” Pokemon Tool, can I do 120 damage to my opponent?
A: Yes, you can. After dealing 120 damage, discard the Expert Belt."

Wow, I wish more people would read the arceus FAQ...it does do 120, and you discard the tool. Damage calculation is preformed before any other effects.
