Ruling LV X retreat

If I had an active inferape and than I turned it into a level x, but than retreat it, does the level x card stay on while on the bench? You can't devolve from level x, can you ?

It stays as a Lv X.

Also, you can devolve from Lv X, but only if the effect of a card says so, the highest evolution under the Lv X would be the card affected, and the level x would follow it wherever it goes...
