Magearna and Volcanion-EX in New Blister Pack!

Oooh, neat! I'd love to get my hands on a Japanese Jumbo card, so this is pretty cool. I hope they won't be retailer limited this time around. IIRC, there was a Mewtwo-EX promo box semi-recently in Japan that included a jumbo but it was limited to a certain store chain only, so more difficult to find online internationally.

Even with an owner's name wouldn't a Magearna card reveal its National Dex number which seems to be a bit ahead of schedule considering its been cited as a mythical Pokemon unless they pull a Victini and place a mythical before a starter.

We know so little about this set. How do we know that we're getting a Volcanion EX? Granted that's not likely. My bigger question, especially in lieu of the dual Rayquaza EX's we got with Emerald Break is how do we know which type of Volcanion EX we're getting? I'd actually like them to release a fire type and a water type at the same time as this is the first occasion in almost 20 years that we've had a fire/water type.

This is the first news of a Magearna card in the TCG. Since a Magearna card will be coming out ahead of its generation, Pokemon Card Laboratory will probably make it an owner’s Pokemon, as they’ve always done with all Pokemon released before their generation. For example, they’ve released “LaRousse’s Munchlax” and “Aura’s Lucario ex,” so we might get something like “Azoth’s Magearna” in this product. I’ve never understood why they do that, but it’s their thang, so yeah.

Several benefits.

Example: if Magearna evolves (who knows at this point), it would have to evolve from regular Magearna, because unlikely Mega Magearna would specify that it could evolve from "Timmy's Magearna." It's like Team Magma's Camerupt has to evolve from Team Magma's Numel.

They can basically make it its own thing without interfering with future Magearna cards or tipping their had and revealing too much about the card or pokemon since the card is made to stand alone.

It's a Mythical Pokemon, I think we can rule out it evolving.

Mega Mewtwo and Mega Diancie disagree. Also, we have BREAK cards that would qualify as evolving in the TCG.

All I'm saying is that it frees them to make a one-off card that doesn't mess with potential future mechanics.

I would hope that this Magearna card would be in the English XY 11 set, or in a blister pack that comes out with the English set, but judging from when this product is coming out, it's most likely that we'll have to wait till either XY 12 or Sun and Moon 1.

As for Volcanion EX, I'm guessing that it will just be a jumbo version of the XY 11 Volcanion EX, because the product description says that there'll just be a jumbo Volcanion EX, not a normal sized one.

We actually have NO evidence whatsoever that Magearna is in gen 7. I've heard nothing about it and I'm pretty sure it's actually gen 6 and here's why.

-It shares resemblance to Diancie and features a more French-Italian design. Nothing like the SE Asia or Hawaii predictions all over YouTube, it just doesn't fit there. Even though many movies have had a Pokemon from the next gen in them (Latios and Latias, Lucario, Manaphy, Zoroark, in some way Mega Mewtwo Y) It makes no sense what region or generation this is actually from. So this could be an owner's card or not. Who knows?

yes XY 11 99% sure will be the last of the XY series of sets because BW 11 is legendary treasures. Sun and Moon will be out in November they might do another XY 12 since I remember XY 1 came out in febuary but I highly doubt that. I can't wait for volcanion ex wonder if they will make it a water type or fire type. Interested to see a fire type with lightning weakness.

This news story made me sad because it reminded me the last Munchlax card was printed in 2009 :(

Also as mentioned above I think it would be awesome to get both a Fire and Water type Volcanion in XY11!

I'd have to disagree with that. Note that XY11 probably will have an August release for us, meaning XY12 should be our last, coming from the fact that a base set for a new game usually appears a few months after the release of said game, which in this case, Sun/Moon should be out around Christmas. Not to mention there were only 11 Black and White sets due to Call of Legends being released to fill in the gap between HS and BW, taking up 1 slot for 2011. But hey, I could be totally wrong for all I care.

Anyways...

Pretty excited to see what Volcanion-EX will look like. It'd be kind of cool to see something where it's like cards from some of the EX-series sets, like Rocket's Pokemon, etc, where it has a dual typing. It's doubtful that they would give us a new mechanic right near the end of the XY era though.

Hopefully they do something like that in Sun/Moon base, or any new mechanic really. Just as long as it has a use in the metagame.

Well yeah BREAK cards are an evolution but they're not new Pokemon, so while a Magearna card may evolve Magearna itself in the wider sense does not, and being a Mythical Pokemon the chances of there being a Pokemon in the National Dex that actually evolves from Magearna is negligible. Similarly, Mega Mewtwo and Mega Diancie are not actual separate Pokemon from Mewtwo and Diancie they're just a different kind of form change.

For anyone interested, this pack is indeed available for pre-order on AmiAmi. It's available singly or in a 6 pack box. Product details on those pages claim that the included packs will be 6 total from XY11 (4 from Explosive Fighter and 2 from Cruel Traitor) and 2 packs from the Legendary Dream Holo Collection. Kind of weird that they'd not have an even number of packs from both XY11 sets, but I guess Volcanion is the star of "Explosive Fighter" and his EX is the main promotion for this box, so I guess it makes sense.

Not bad, could be an interesting tech with its first attack. Low retreat also comes in handy, but the low HP also relegates it to being an eazy prize for sniping.
