Magnezone or Gengar?

Hey all,

I've been testing CurseGar for States, and is doing fairly good. I've recently come across a card like Gengar, Magnezone SF. (The electric one) I've yet to test it, but it seems like it could be really disrupting, (Especially if they have only Claydols or something on their bench) forcing your opponent to switch, and switching into a disruptor yourself.

So, my question is, is Magnezone as good as CurseGar, and if so, which is the better choice?

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Cursegar spreads, and Magnezone switches both. Perhaps-you should use both? Like the main attacker as Magnezone, and like a 1-1-1 or 1-0-1 Cursegar tech to move the damage around? Its the same concept really, but you get the "best of both worlds". Also, I hate Hannah Montana, so no one make a comment.

Magnezone also has better damage output, and a built in energy acceleration. It might actually be faster than cusegar but I haven't tried it out yet. Also with the metal type magnezone you don't need unown Q to switch. Just move a metal energy to spiritomb, retreat and then move the metal back.

I've been messing around with Magnezone. It has a lot going on, and it's difficult to set up, but if you can set it up, it's tons of fun. I use two Electric SF Magnezones, one DP Magnezone, and the Lv. X (I don't have a Metal SF Magnezone handy or I would try that out). I focused on throwing an Expert Belt on SF Magnezone, hitting with Gyro Ball for 80, and switching to a Spritomb or a Metal Magnezone loaded with Special Metal energy. You take advantage of the X and DP Magnezone to move around energies each turn to move SF Mags back into active and continue the hit-and-run strategy. If you need some extra damage or paralysis for breathing room (not taking the bajillion ways to maneuver around paralysis into account), you can use Cyber Shock instead, since it's easy to recover energy.

Staples:
Spirtomb PA
Gets some extra usefulness by adding a trainer lock to the hit-and-run strategy and also gets free retreat with DP Mags in play.

Claydol GE
Self-Explanatory

Possible support:
Palkia Lv. X
Use its power to pull out potential threats before they set up or techs for easy KOs. Lv. X and DP Magnezone let you get SF Magnezone back into the active spot afterward. Pretty much required to maximize SF Magnezone's effectiveness.

Electivire Lv. X
Slows down SPs by making attaching Energy Gains risky, and SW Electivire can pull energy out of the discard if you're relying on Cyber Shock for damage.

Manetric PL/Bench Shield
Flygon Lv. X will destroy you with the quickness if you run all of the previously mentioned Xes without some way to protect your bench.

Nidoqueen/Blissey Prime
It boils down to preference. The hit-and-run strategy is going to build up some damage on a lot of your Pokemon over time, so you can use Nidoqueen to heal as you rotate through your Pokemon (not to mention in makes Electric SF Magnezone's power's damaging effect a non-issue). Blissey is an option because of Magnezone Lv. X's power, which lets you avoid the discard, but you'll probably need a few Super Scoop Ups, too.

Magnezone pretty much loses automatically to any deck with DP Dusknoir because of how much bench space it requires, so keep that in mind and make it your top priority to KO any Duskull in play.

Well Cursegar can spread and take off lv x's while magnazone can use the free retreat magnezone from Diamond & Pearl. I'd say it deoends on your meta game, if there is a lot of gyarados and legos in your area then you probably want to use magnazone. I don't know many types that have a psychic weakness that are a main attacker in a deck, the only ones I can think of are Machamp, Mewtwo, and Toxicroak G which are all support pokemon in decks.

also if you use 1-1-1 e-vire you can do cyber shock once every turn using all or their power so i vote magnazone also in this case you could use blissey prime

Nah, don't use both. Use Magnezone if and only if there are a lot of Gyarados in your meta and there are next to no Donphan Prime decks.

dmaster out.

Donphan should never be hitting zone if you're playing the deck right, and if they run reversals/luxray glX just level up to get rid of the weakness/resistance issue.

I made a thread about this on http://google.com/, but I'm still undecided on which is better. I think the general consensus was that gengar had a better lvX, thus making gengar a slightly better deck, though I guess it does depend on your meta.

Use a Magnazone deck cause its more rough, you could run conductive quarry, then you can hit with magnazone lv X for 80 and use conductive quarry and the electric magnazone and hit for 80 a turn.
