Hi guys! Since the launch of Ultra Necrozma Battle Arena Deck I have finally got 4 Jirachi, so I have decided to give a chance to Malamar. Testing with the Pokemon TCG Online (I only have 2 Jirachi there) I’ve been using this list:
My List:
2 Ultra Necrozma GX
2 Jirachi
4 Inkay
4 Malamar
1 Jirafarig
2 Giratina
1 Mew
1 Mimikyu
2 Sableye (Lost Thunder)
4 Mysterious Treasure
2 Acro Bike
2 Switch
4 Custom Catcher
3 Pokemon Communication
3 Viridian Forest
1 Power Plant
3 Cynthia
1 Copycat
3 Lillie
2 Escape Board
4 Spell Tag
1 Recycle Energy
2 Metal Energy
6 Psychic Energy
Options:
- Ultra Necrozma is basically used here for its GX attack to end games. However, starting with Ultra Necrozma or needing to bench him before its time has come usually ends up in losing 2 prizes, while you want to go single-prize until late game. I’m considering to switch 1 Ultra Necrozma for a Lost Thunder Nihilego, so that you can copy Deoxys & Espeon GX (which I’m not running because giving up 3 prizes and using 6 energies doesn’t seem so good) GX attack (since you are using [P] either way) or using it as a better Mimikyu.
- While I’m running 2-2 Jirachi/Sableye in the PTCGO, I could play 3/1 or even 4/0 Jirachi IRL.
- Girafarig is here for making things more difficult for some decks like baby Blacephalon (fire) and NagaQuag. Though I’m not sure if it’s worthy.
Match Ups:
- Psychic Malamar: atm it seems very favourable, usually it ends up in a prize exchange until you land Sky-Scorching Light GX to close the game.
- Mew3: if you can snipe Jirachi GX, it quickly goes from 50/50 to easy. At least with Girafarig you can take out some discharded ‘mons so that they have less optimal attacks. However, sniping Jirachi GX is not easy, so I guess 50/50.
- Oranguru control: I literally don’t know how to play against this.
- Ability Zard: if you don’t start with Ultra Necrozma, its maybe 50/50 or 40/60.
- Blacephalon GX and Baby Blowns: both seems good MU, at least from playtesting in PTCGO.
- PikaRom, PikaBill and Green’s Reshizard: Not enough information yet.
Your opinion matters too!
So guys, tell me:
- How would you improve my list?
- Are you Malamar players? From your experience, what is your opinion about the meta match ups?
- If you’re not Malamar players, which deck do you play and how you face the Malamar match up? What do you usually try to do (if possible, something more elaborated than just “snipping Malamar”)
