So, this was the first prerelease I've ever been to, heh. They've had them in my city for years and years, but I just never realized how awesome they would be.
So I arrived at the place at 4:30, even though the even didn't start until 6. I played Gogo's Crazy Bones with a few of my league buddies while we waited.
Then, as the event sign-ups began, I stood in line with my $40 (for both the prerelease and the afterdraft) and paid, then received an empty deck box.
After sign-ups were finished, we were called up to the table to receive our six packs.
I opened them. And my best pulls?
Three Pokemon Catcher; one was reverse.
Full art Thundurus.
Holo Virizion
Holo Terrakion
Then, I built a fighting and grass deck, making sure to include Terrakion and Virizion. Then, the tournament began.
I was paired up against a kid who had come from three hours away. (I'm in the senior division, by the way)
It was an easy victory; I used the two legendary "deer" and three Pokemon catchers to wipe him out.
Second match: I beat the league owner's son. He's pretty good, too. He just ran out of basics, giving me the victory.
Third and final match: I played against one of my friends from the league, who, is very good as well. I managed to use the catchers to my advantage.
And, at my first tournament/prerelease/anything besides league, I WON FIRST PLACE IN THE SENIOR DIVISION! DD
Then, we turned in our energies and received two more packs of cards. Not much from them, though.
After that, the afterdraft began.
We were sorted into pods of eight people of all age groups. We did a draft, where we opened a pack, took one card, and passed the rest of the cards on. Then after all the cards from those packs were gone, we opened another one. I got a Tornadus, a reverse Virizion, and two more catchers.
I used a grass deck, and included Tornadus and the two catchers.
First round;
I played against an older guy from the master's division. He was probably eighteen or nineteen. I'm thirteen.
Using the catchers, my new best friends, I switched his more powerful Pokemon such as Zoroark with the low HP basics to quickly collect prizes. I had won.
Second match; I played a nine year old. He wiped me out with his Darmanitan, because I just couldn't draw my catchers.
Third match; I was supposed to play, but my opponent dropped out and didn't inform the judge. I automatically won.
Fourth match; I was up against the nine year old who had beaten me earlier. This time, I was able to draw some catchers and when he sent out Darmanitan and defeated Virizion, I used a catcher to switch it with a Joltik. Defeating the Joltik with my Lilligant, I claimed my second to last prize.
My heart was racing, because I, the girl who has never been to a tournament or prerelease, was in the finals. He sent out Darmanitan as I drew a catcher and sent it back to the bench. I brought out a low HP basic and defeated it, claiming the victory. I won four more packs for first place, in which I pulled yet another full art Thundurus. ^_^
So, yeah, it was awesome, and I can't wait until the next prerelease! Until then, I'll be eagerly waiting~ ^__^
