In what has become a familiar scene, Pokemon fans are posting videos to social media showing mayhem at their local Costco stores as adults try to secure the 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection. It releases on February 7th, but began appearing at Costco stores two weeks ago.

Here was the scene at a Costco in Los Angeles this morning, courtesy of MaximumMunda. The store had just stocked the item and opened its doors:
At the same store, a brawl began to break out between customers:
Most other stores have seen the collection sell out within a minute of opening:
The 151 “Blooming Waters Premium Collection” retails for $59.99, but is currently selling for between $120 to $150 on the secondary market. If a scalper manages to grab ten of them, it will net them between $600...

I tried getting one online. Got it in my cart, ready to check out, and in seconds it sold out and wouldn’t let me hit the order button.
Restocks last literal seconds due to bots from what I’ve heard. Absolutely ridiculous.
I’ve given up on getting this. I just wanted the sparkly Venusaur and Bulbasaur promos for my collection.

its honestly so embarrassing that people do this over a childrens card game, like its actually quite pathetic ruining a kids day trying to make money which they will inevitably lose overall
They don't do it 'over a kids game', for them it's just money, the means is indifferent to them. If they can they will do the same with everything, from life saving medication, to toilet paper (remember early covid days ?). As long as they can make some $$ the most unhinged, strong etc wins.
(And let's be honest at least here, especially those products are not a 'kids game', but mostly for collectors and the TCC is generally at least partly for collectors, and collecting usually involves quite some money, something that kids don't have. Pokemon along other brands/franchises (eg. Disney) have reached a point that are at a big % addressed and supported by adults.)

Disappointing seeing the hobby return to primal caveman behavior over a 151 collection box.

One Costco i saw was lining people up with carts and made a corral for people to walk in with purchase limits & the whole transaction was well managed. The incompetence of that Costco employee in the video further proves the reason why this behavior is still occurring. Organize & manage better, don't just scream "dont run" as they run past you.

Imagine being so pathetic that you, as an adult, get into an actual physical fight over Pokemon cards. There's certain times where people deserve to be gatekept out of a hobby (cough Logan Paul fans cough). Stuff like this Costco incident is one of those times. If you participate in this hobby and hurt other people because you want some shiny cardboard, you shouldn't be accepted among your peers. Full stop.

Ah, the usual suspects. I bet nobody in that mob has filed their taxes in several years, let alone put deodorant on or shaved. My son and I collect Pokémon. We get what's available on the shelves or in a shop but I really hope this behavior from those people stay far away from when a child is around with their guardian trying to purchase some packs... A hobby that was once relaxing and enjoyable for all is now a mosh pit for the degenerate side of this species...

That might actually be a good way to deal with scalpers: sic the IRS (or HMRC) on them. People did that to camgirls a few years ago.
